Mission: Looking for the Future in all the Wrong Places

[ON]

It wasn't long before Zhukov and Chief Watson were able to make their way towards the bridge. The ship was smaller, much smaller than the Ranger. In fact, with only eight decks, Zhukov was sure this was probably the smallest starship he had ever been on.

"Chief, I know they say that...size doesn't matter, but this ship seems tiny." He said as they climbed up a ladder between Deck 2 and Deck 1.

The Chief, who was right behind Vladimir on the ladder replied, "She's little, that's for sure, sir. But she's also taken quite a beating and held her own, so I wouldn't judge her too harshly." Watson replied.

Zhukov climbed up another few ladder rungs until he had reached an access panel. "Maybe you're right Chief. I wonder how she flies?" he asked as he removed the panel and crawled out onto the deck. They were now on Deck 1, and had emerged into a small storage area adjacent to the bridge. Vladimir turned around to help Watson out of the Jefferies tube.

They both got up, dusted themselves off, and proceeded to exit the tiny area and exit onto the bridge.

The door from the room to the bridge didn't open by itself as they had both expected. Zhukov and Watson had to manually open them. Upon entering the Main bridge, Zhukov noticed the chaos immediately. There were half a dozen people on the bridge, but there didn't seem to be any organization to it.

Watson quickly realized the situation and bellowed out, "Attention on Deck!"

Zhukov paused for a moment as all the crew on the bridge stopped what they were doing immediately and stood straight up at attention.

Vladimir glanced around the room quickly. One thing became immediately clear...he was the senior officer on deck. He took a deep breath.

"OK, what's going on here?" he asked in a very commanding tone. "Who's in command?" he asked.

T'alaal was still busy in the Ready Room trying to keep the ship commanded. While she managed quite admirably considering her relative age, it did not include the comfortable center seat on the bridge.

Meanwhile, Ensign Roberts answered the Commander. "Commander. We're working on getting the bridge back to working order. Second officer T'alaal is acting Captain, you can find her in the Ready Room." He pointed towards one of the doors on the side of the bridge.

Zhukov nodded. "Thank you, Ensign. Continue your work." he replied. He turned his head over his shoulder and whispered to the Chief, "Keep an eye on them, Chief and see if you can't lend them a hand. I'm heading to the Ready Room to see what help I can be, if any." The Chief simply nodded as Zhukov walked towards the doors that led to the Ready Room.

Vladimir touched the chime button on the side of the door and waited for a response.

T'alaal happened to be near the door as she was replicating a quick cup of tea, so she manually opened the door herself to greet her visitors. "Ah, it is good to see you, commander. Captain T'alaal of the USS Archimedes" she extended her hand.

[Deck 4, Sickbay]

Dr. Henry Alicton had finally made his way to Sickbay. There were multiple casualties lying in the corridor outside sickbay. They were clearly in need of medical assistance.

He made his way to the main doors, only to find that they wouldn't open. He put his medical bag down on the deck and manually opened the doors. He picked up his bag and walked into the sick bay. He had his white lab coat over his regulation uniform.

Sickbay had several people attending to the numerous patients that lay about on biobeds, on the floor, and even on the desk in the Chief Medical Officer's office.

A nurse stopped in mid step and just stared at him from about four feet away. "Are you a doctor?" she asked.

Alicton, true to his level of sarcasm shook his head. "No miss, I'm a gardener. However, I did notice that there appears to be some level of distress here." he said as he held up his medical kit that read 'Dr. H. Alicon, M.D.'

The nurse was clearly not impressed. "I'm glad you're here, doctor. Our Chief Medical Officer was wounded badly in one of the explosions, and the assistant has been working non stop for almost two days now. I can't remember...the last time we slept. I think we have treated or seen half the crew on this ship." she said.

Alicton nodded. The time for humor was at an end. It was time to get to work. "Where can I start?" he asked her.

The nurse grabbed his hand and pulled him to the closest bio bed. On the bed lay a Lieutenant Commander wearing a red and black tunic. "This is Lieutenant Commander Bale, the Executive Officer. He was struck by a falling conduit when a plasma tube exploded. He also sustained a concussion when we were first hit. He had severe internal bleeding. We were able to stop that, but he hasn't been very responsive to the medication we have him on." said the nurse. "I don't know where Captain Kerr is...and...well..."

Alicton nodded. "I'll do what I can for him." the doctor said as he pulled out his medical tricorder and began to scan Bale. "Yes, you are correct. Severe damage here to the liver, the gall bladder, and the spleen...which has apparently ruptured." said Alicton. Even with micro surgery, it would take some time to heal him.

"You have stopped the bleeding, but haven't fixed the main cause of distress." he said to her. "Can we operate?" he asked her.

She shook her head side to side. "No, I mean, yes, but where?" she asked.

"If the transporters are back online, and the holodeck is working, we can beam him directly there into a surgical program that I have made." he said.

The nurse shrugged her shoulders. "I'm not sure who you should contact." she said. "Maybe try the bridge to see if they..."

Alicton tapped his comm badge. "Alicton to Reynaldi, are you there, Lieutenant?" he asked.

Alex looked up rather annoyedly at the interuption. =/= Reynaldi here. How can I help you, Doctor? =/=

"Do we have transporter or holodeck power? I need both to perform emergency surgery immediately." said the doctor. "What can you do?"

He thought about it for a while, running his fingers over the console he was standing at. "I believe I can, but I don't know that the holodeck will stay functional long enough."

"Mr. Engineer, if you can't guarantee that the Holodeck will stay operational, can you spare a man to make sure that it does? If that program crashes, my patient crashes too." the doctor said, clearly irritated.

=/= Aye, Mr Coltrane will be down there to assist you. =/=

Alicton nodded to the nurse and cracked a slight smile. "Understood. Alicton out." he said as he tapped his comm badge again. "Get him ready for transport, nurse." the doctor said to her.

[Deck 1, Captain's Ready Room]

"I'll do whatever you need me to do." Zhukov said to Lieutenant T'alaal. "Forget for the moment that I outrank you. This is your ship. I want to help you however I can." he said to the Vulcan. "I'm familiar with the navigation systems and the flight control systems. They are almost the same as on the Ranger, just a bit smaller." Vladimir said with a smile.

"Thank you, commander, your experience and skill will be most useful. In fact, I heard our helmsman had some trouble aligning the impulse engines. You can find Lieutenant Garst on the bridge, he would be most appreciative of your help." While it didn't seem the most pressing of matters, it was a delicate procedure, and without it the impulse engines wouldn't be able to go full power without ripping the Archimedes apart. Also, with Engineering working on getting the Warp engines back online in the first place, there wasn't much that can be done about it without extensive engineering knowledge.

Zhukov nodded. "Chief Watson and I will get right on it." Zhukov replied as he nodded to the Lieutenant, turned, and left the Captain's Ready Room. This would take some time to do properly, but with the Chief's help, he thought they could have everything ready in less than six hours.
