Citadel Prime

Post Count: 98

The Archimedes has been tasked to accompany the Citadel Task Force assigned to bring peace to the war torn systems of the Citadel Sectors. Her first priority is to head to Citadel Prime, the former Capital Planet of the once powerful empire and rendezvous with the USS Nagasaki, the lead vessel of the Task Force. Peace must be brought to this region of the Alpha Quadrant before it can escalate even further.

Wolves in Sheep's Clothing

Post Count: 93

As peace negotiations between the three chief Citadel races get underway down on Citadel Prime, a Starfleet diplomatic party (made up of Archimedes' and Nagasaki' crewmembers alike) arrive in the magnificent Tower to oversee Federation interests. As they calmly take their seats to witness this historical occasion, a commotion rumbles in the crowd before them...

"A shot from the balcony above rang out, hitting its mark -- Commander Arkham. Gritting her teeth in pain and clutching her left side, she forced herself to the floor as panic ensued, pulling down Carter as well -- there was no need for the young Ensign to get killed on this fool's errand."

With the talks in tatters, and officers wounded, each interested faction retreats back to their own corner to reassess and recuperate. However, the state of affairs causes all manner of sorts to come out of the woodwork. But, behind the facade of friendly faces lies a smattering of hostile intentions; each one aligned to their own cause to bring about their own rendering of the "greater good" for the Alpha Quadrant.

Behind the Mask of Familiarity

Post Count: 145

While the Archimedes dangles in orbit above the magnificent Citadel Prime, the treachery and sabotage that begins to unfold on her small decks will take her entire crew to band together and stand their ground in order to overcome it. The adversity they are still to face still lingers in the unknown.

With loyalties stretched until breaking point and new faces and old playing their own part in the uncertain future of the Arch, the Captain has few to turn to, and fewer to trust.

Peace talks on the surface still on hold, the Second Officer arrested for, among other things, treason and three of the senior staff with dark secrets kept hidden under the cloak of duty. Will the Archimedes and her crew survive to complete their mission and save not only the peace negotiations they were tasked here to oversee, but themselves from the nameless shadow whose smile masks their own benevolence?

The Shining Truth

Post Count: 59

"Commander, I didn't realise that it was dress-down Friday," he quipped, narrowing his eyes on his First Officer, now realising which side she had chosen to ally herself with. "What"„¢s the meaning of this?"

"I'm sure, Coltan, that you already know," Arkham said coolly. "We have tried to be reasonable. We have given you numerous chances to cooperate and to work with us, but you have chosen the Archimedes and the Fleet over the Federation, and for this there is no forgiveness. My only rational course is to perform that dreaded duty of a First Officer."

"What are you talking about, Rowena?" The appeal to her familiar name caused no reaction from that steely gaze of hers as she stared almost through him. He felt the colour drain from his face as the cool air around him touched his clammy brow. He swallowed, somewhat vocally, but maintained his fix on her.

"Captain Coltan Wintersley Lane," Arkham began, speaking over the Captain, "under Starfleet Regulation, I hereby remove you from Command."

Captain Lane has been removed from command of the USS Archimedes and incarcerated in her brig as his First Officer takes control of the state of affairs and the ship under the advisement of a disloyal mission advisor, Captain Harwood. Faced only with the company of another officer accused of murder, Lieutenant Carter, the revealing truth of his first mission in command slowly unfolds as he stands powerless to act upon the information. Who are the real puppeteers pulling the strings of the players in this strategic game? And can the crew band together to survive the fall-out?

Balowlli System

Post Count: 119

Starfleet Research and Development are about to roll out a new and innovative type of torpedo across the Fleet: The Polaron Torpedo. Tested and re-tested in controlled environments, Command now wants the Scientifically advanced Nova Class Archimedes to take a consignment of Polaron torpedoes to the system called Balowlli and field-test the weapons in open space.

The Balowlli system is primarily uninhabited save for two planets, both supporting pre-warp civilisations. Command is insistent on the maintenance of the Prime Directive and so have authorised the testing to commence in the expanses of asteroid fields that encompass the entire system. Chosen for the unique radiation properties, a specific section of the field has been isolated for use.

Starting small, a survey probe will be the focus of investigation firstly, moving through complexity and mass to a shuttle and then a de-commissioned Oberth Class. What could possibly go wrong?

Picking up the Pieces

Post Count: 60

Field-testing the new Polaron torpedoes that were about to be rolled out across the Fleet, the USS Archimedes, captained by the recently joined Trill Coltan Kerr, suffered major damage to all systems. The USS Ranger, whist touring the galaxy on a mini-shakedown cruise after a system refit, intercepted her distress call and warped to the rescue.

Now the crew of the Archimedes are residing on the Ranger as the Nova class vessel is towed home, out of commission for the next three months.

How will the old crew integrate with the new on a new vessel and under the command of a new Captain? How will they now fare?

The Paulson Nebula

Post Count: 49

Starfleet Command have decided to utilise the Intrepid USS Ranger, and her newly united jigsaw crew, for her original intention: a scientific survey mission. Routine, exploratory and at the forefront of science, this mission will test not only the Ranger's newly updated sensor-refit but also the crew that now man her.

Their objective? To investigate the anomalous sensor readings Starbase 97 have faintly detected emanating from within the Paulson Nebula. Why the Ranger? Her scientific advancement and proximity make her the convenient choice. What will they find as they reach the edges of the interstellar gas cloud?

Part of Into the Dust

The Clarity of Informed Sight

Post Count: 54

The USS Ranger is on her way to the infamous Paulson Nebula where a now suspiciously acting Starbase 97 has detected anomalous readings emanating from within the gas cloud. She has picked up faint readings herself but without drawing nearer to the fringes of the nebula, the results aren't worthy of note.

Sliding the scan to the side, Lieutenant Commander McAdams pulled up the one she'd been studying for the last hour or so and frowned, running her hand quickly through her loose hair before she segregated her screen into the four smaller windows that allowed her to analyse multiple scans at a time. "I'm more concerned with this nebula, to be honest." Whether it was an intentional snub or not, Rose ignored Halliwell and directed her gaze towards the stern man currently leaning on her terminal. "Their Razors took some pretty clean snaps but the resolution is shot to pieces. Since I've got no reason to believe their guys had no idea how to work their equipment, it's a fair bet we're not looking at an environment that lends itself to picturesque precision. If we're going in, I'm going to need to figure out how to scan so that we don't get back a heap of fuzz. I also wouldn't mind trying to clear up a few of these scans, there are a couple of spots look like heat flares I'd kind of like to give a proper name to."

The Science and Security teams have pooled their resources and as the Intrepid class vessel trundles ever closer are attempting to clarify the information received from the scans.

What lies in wait for the Ranger and her crew as they forge forth towards the purple haze?

Stealth

Post Count: 120

Having peered through the murky veil of the Paulson Nebula, the USS Ranger trepidatiously glided through the gaseous cloud to where the sensor readings had directed them. Upon arrival at the coordinates, the QAR (a mercenary group with questionable allegiances), lay in wait, guarding one of their own disabled ships. Suddenly and maliciously the raider attacked with ferocity as the Intrepid class starship innocently drew nearer.

Elsie suddenly barked "Shields?" but the call came too late. As both Rose and T'mpest attempted to correct their disadvantage, the active QAR vessel released a single phaser shot that tore through the Ranger's hull. The shot shook the entire fifteen decked vessel and as it did so, a power surge bolted through the power conduits feeding the consoles of the bridge. A dull hum could be heard from behind the captain as the electrical force was accumulating in the panel, feeding to it more and more force as it remained unleashed. A sudden spark blew out the back consoles and readouts, the blast propelling her thin frame onto the console in front. Elsie pressed the palms of her hands down on the display, attempting to heave herself up. As she grappled to her feet, the bridge, according to Elsie, fell deafly silent and a brilliant white light raped her eyes. The explosion of the front console threw her backwards again and, losing consciousness, her limp body landed splayed onto the debris strewn floor.

Having successfully dispatched the antagonist, the Ranger and her captain, both battered, bruised but alive decide the next course of action they, as a crew, should take. Two separate away-missions and a solitary "escapee" of Starbase 97 force the officers of the Intrepid to face a siege from both fronts. What lies in wait back at the starbase and what will be revealed once Intelligence and Operations board the disabled vessel?

Lost Friends

Post Count: 81

The familiar USS Archimedes, still under command of the now care-worn but affectionately remembered Captain Coltan Kerr, happened upon a remarkable and yet completely alien and undiscovered artifact surveying the idyllic and luscious planet Overton in the Ionasixal System.

The Nova class's resident archaeologist identified the piece of ancient technology as a seemingly sophisticated transporter system, harbouring the tell-tale marks of an archaic civilisation (Hareatians) believed to have died out, along with their technological feats, several millennia ago.

The Archimedes' engineering team successfully located the vital, yet damaged integral component to the transporter system, capable of transporting something or someone over thousands of lightyears, and as such Starfleet have ordered the ship (and the component) back to Deep Space Five for further analysis, leaving a small archaeological based team to continue efforts on the surface.

However, Command lost contact with the Archimedes en route, and since the crew and her captain are known to the ship and its captain, the Intrepid USS Ranger has been tasked to investigate.

Looking for the Future in all the Wrong Places

Post Count: 70

The USS Archimedes is adrift and damaged after being attacked and pillaged by a little known but powerful band of mercenaries whilst it was en route to Deep Space Five. The Queen Anne's Revenge (QAR) drained her of power, boarded her and then systematically sabotaged her key and primary systems whilst searching for the unidentified component she was tasked to ferry. However, on their return to their own vessel, they happened upon another valuable commodity: Sonaata.

Now Captain Kerr is a broken man, unhinged and vulnerable.

Due to Halliwell and her crew's previous experience with the Archimedes, the USS Ranger has been assigned to search for and secure the Nova class ship and... more importantly the component. But now they have stumbled upon crew, captain and vessel with the artifact and a one solitary crewmember missing. Kerr is babbling, the crew are demoralised and the ship, although intact, is crippled. It is now down to Halliwell and her crew to assist them and pick up the trail recover both artifact and crewmember before time runs out for both.

Taylforth

Post Count: 108

The USS Ranger and her crew have been given a reprieve. Command has noted the hardships both she and her captain have faced of late and, as a result, has dispatched her on a typical, uneventful survey mission to the Taylforth system.

Having last been documented over a decade ago, Taylforth IV was scheduled a revisit due to the discovery of its balkanized pre-warp but advanced industrial society and, as such, a diplomatic and scientific hand has been extended on behalf of the Federation.

Is this world teetering on the edge of light-speed and self-discovery? Or does it house a darker, more sinister secret lying in wait?

Racing against the clock, and balancing personal, moral and logistical issues, the crew of the Ranger must fight for what they believe in... even if that fight takes them to the outer reaches of all what Starfleet and the Federation stands for.

Fishing

Post Count: 111

The Ranger delicately lies in orbit of Taylforth IV awaiting the arrival of assistance in guise of the USS Pelican. The Romulans on one side, suspiciously mining dilithium from its moon having "enslaved" a group of its pre-warp inhabitants for suspected free labour and the mystery as to why the planet flooded with such ferocity on the other. Against the concerns of crew and passengers alike, Halliwell seems Hell-bent on taking the ship beneath the waves to fully investigate what caused such a catastrophe and more importantly, who.

Elsie nodded but it was clear in her steely determination that the path the crew had now set upon was already cast before them. "The Pelican will arrive in four days. That leaves one day for you to tinker with the sensors from orbit, two days to submerge and then another to be clear of the water before we await their arrival. We need to be clear what happened here before we, in tandem, head on over to the Romulans and accuse them of either causing this or taking advantage of a geographic and technological catastrophe."

Bleeding it Dry

Post Count: 37

The USS Ranger lies submerged, having just dispatched a world-changing torpedo into the inner-depths of Taylforth IV. Its desired intention: to stabilise the damaging geological mal-effects of the inhabitants' experimentations with warp drive.

The Romulans, now being cast solely as heartless profiteers of the Taylforthians misfortune, still drain one of its moons of the dilithium deposits that also run so richly through the planet. But what lengths will the green-skinned foes delve to to protect such a rich source of income?

And can Halliwell and her crew, along with the reinforcements in the guise of the Pelican put an end to the suffering and victimisation of such a floundering planet?

"Creating a counter-warp has the potential to destabilize an already tenuous seismographic situation. There are other, proven ways to cool a dilithium burn without the risk of causing more harm," T'mpest said, still not convinced.

"I also think this may not be the best solution," Prudentia said, "A planet is massively bigger then a ship, and the frequencies will not be the same everywhere. We may quench the 'fire' at one position, while increasing it at another." She paused for a bit, then added, "It would be safer to use the Deflector Dish to put out the pulse, but it would be on a smaller scale. Captain, can't we request Starfleet to send ships to slowly stabilize the planet this way?"

"I disagree," Elsie replied, almost matter-of-factly. "We're here now. And the Taylforthians need our help. I'm not willing to wait days, weeks even, for Starfleet Headquarter's scientists to deliberate on a much grander scale than what we are doing now. We need to act. And we need to act today." She turned to Prudentia and narrowed her gaze upon her. "A deflector pulse wouldn't have the impactive energies required to make this change global. And stablising just one tectonic continent would be pointless and ineffectual for the indigenous inhabitants."

"I can do it."

Heads turned to find Lieutenant Jimmy Cooper standing otherwise unannounced in the doorway. "I've got experience with the warp fields, and I know I can set up a low-yield torpedo spread to stabilize this planet. I owe it to this planet."
