Polaron Effect
Starfleet Research and Development are about to roll out a new and innovative type of torpedo across the Fleet: The Polaron Torpedo. Tested and re-tested in controlled environments, Command now wants the Scientifically advanced Nova Class Archimedes to take a consignment of Polaron torpedoes to the system called Balowlli and field-test the weapons in open space.

The Balowlli system is primarily uninhabited save for two planets, both supporting pre-warp civilisations. Command is insistent on the maintenance of the Prime Directive and so have authorised the testing to commence in the expanses of asteroid fields that encompass the entire system. Chosen for the unique radiation properties, a specific section of the field has been isolated for use.
Starting small, a survey probe will be the focus of investigation firstly, moving through complexity and mass to a shuttle and then a de-commissioned Oberth Class. What could possibly go wrong?
