Mission:
Sowing the Seeds
Location: Bridge, USS Ranger
Timeline: Mission Day 5, 0930 hours
ON:
Elsie looked out through the viewscreen onto the wreckage of the Dubai, the heavy weight of loss coating her heart with its thick, acrid torment. Unlike Ranger, the Galaxy class line housed many civilians. It wasn't so much a vessel of science but of community and families. Since its explosion, Elsie couldn't shake the sense of pain that now encased her. She turned around to Blake and, rather regretfully, snapped at him. "Take it off, Lieutenant! We've seen enough!"
The poor lieutenant jumped and stabbed at the console hastily, "Y-Yes," he stammered changing the view.
She snapped her attention back to the aft view of the ship and then slowly said, without looking at him, "sorry" to Blake before standing up from her chair and walking out to the middle of bridge.
Blake's brow crinkled at her apology he looked over his shoulder to her retreating form with increasing confusion.
"Halliwell to Engineering. What's our status?"
There was that voice again, and Mora still couldn't place what grated her so with it. It was almost like it reverberated down her spine, Halliwell's breath lightly caressing the hairs on the back of her neck. Still, this was the first official call down to Engineering since they had met for the first time earlier, and despite wanting to report tip-top shape, Mora resigned her response, "Impulse drive is fully functional, captain, but I wouldn't push the main warp engines past warp two, maybe two point five--we've been having some minor problems with the EPS flow on decks ten through twelve. Nothing too serious but I'd prefer to clear those up before we tax the nacelles too much."
"Lieutenant Hands," then interjected, focusing her attention on the helmsman, "Plot a course to the forbidden sector, maximum speed."
James Hands bent his head over his console and began to plot the fasted route. "We'll have to bear off course by two degrees to bypass a small nebula, but aside from that, we'll be there in seventeen hours." He tapped in the command and felt the power of the engines kick into life as the whole ship was now under his control. "Maximum impulse achieved. Smooth sailing from here on in, Captain."
She turned around and headed back to her seat, Commander Michaels sitting there quietly and statue-like. "We're going to find what Jenner was keeping from us in that damned sector if it's the last thing I do."
T'mpest inclined her head. She, too, believed that they needed to find out what was going on. "It is the logical thing to do at this point," she said quietly.
"Mora. I'm heading down to Engineering in twenty minutes. I want to have a look at these power fluctuations."
Kadie couldn't help but mouth 'Great!' in an extremely sarcastic way. Another meeting with the commanding officer. Maybe this one would make her feel a little easier serving under her... maybe.
It was at that point Kendrick entered the bridge and took in the surrounds, who was present, where they were, before planting herself with a virtual seat in front of the master systems display with a clear view of the entirety of the bridge. She said nothing however, and was generally unnoticed.
T'mpest glanced over to Kendrick and then back to her display. The undercurrents roiling through the senior officers were becoming almost visceral. Halliwell especially was radiating so much tension that it gave T'mpest a headache. Especially when Kendrick walked into the room. Was this palpable tension what started the problems on the Dubai? she wondered. She needed to examine the crew logs -- or have Sammi do it.
She sent a quick message to her computer avatar to start sorting through the data yet again. "Except for the fluctuations, all systems report ready," she reported to the Captain.
"Then onwards!" she called out.
Jimmy, standing at one of the science stations, bit on his tongue as he monitored everything he could about the ship's status, so that as soon as anything went amiss he could - well, he could do something. With help of Fer, he had also rigged an emergency teleport towards a shuttle to evacuate instantly if he deemed it necessary. Also, he had snuck a phaser on his side, but he was also aware that now was not the time to move.
