Personality & Traits
| General Overview | An introvert by nature, Kadie Mora finds it hard to mingle, and will not often say anything unless she has something to say. Some would say she's unapproachable, others would say she's just shy--whatever the reason, she doesn't talk openly about things or herself, her past being of the utmost privacy, and it's a big part of why she cannot trust people without fully getting to know them. | |
| Strengths & Weaknesses | A few more or less than what she would care to admit. Like many, Kadie's strengths are also her weaknesses, including but not limited to: - She's fiercely loyal to those she knows and gets along with, especially those under her remit. - Strong and silent would be two words to describe her too, and this has proved to be a hindrance to advancing in her career by her slow climb through the ranks. When she does add something however, she's a force to be reckoned with. - Her sharp wit and killer tongue. When employed, it usually diffuses situations and makes things bearable. When she can't stop it however, it can come at most inopportune moments and be quite cutting. |
|
| Ambitions | Kadie Mora has worked hard and sacrificed much to be where she is, and for the moment at least, that is enough. | |
| Hobbies & Interests | Mora does not have many hobbies, or indeed need of many, much like friends. Her most favourite past time is reading, though the subject matter is extremely diverse, from technical manuals to reports, poetry to a good novelisation. | |

| Personal History | Kadie Mora was the fourth child born (on April 4, 2308) to Orin and Neevo Mora, and was the only girl. Despite her parents wants for a girly-girl, growing up with three older male siblings had strong influences to Kadie's psyche, developing a tomboy attitude very quickly. Personal jabs and jives, with the occasional physical sibling torment notwithstanding, the Mora homestead was more often than not a happy one, owed in part to the close telepathic bond shared between them all. Orin and Neevo were explorers through and through, and with their family now complete (always wanting a girl), decided that it was a great opportunity to continue exploring their part of the galaxy, and some of beyond. With the Federation Romulan war long since over, the Klingon Federation Alliance continuing to forge strong, the galaxy was experiencing a great calm, allowing many peace loving nations get back to furthering their knowledge through exploration. Orin served as a security officer on an Ynari carrier tasked with exploring as far to the galactic core as they could. They went too far. Late in 2322, the kric'Ta was ambushed by a numerically superior force. Despite the Ynari vessel being one of the largest in the fleet, with their sheer numbers and stinging firepower, the unknown aliens were able to disable several key systems, and board the vessel. The Ynari fought back valiantly, but they were overrun, and most of the crew were slaughtered. Those that survived were tortured and toyed with for a number of days seemingly as some cruel sport, including Kadie, one of two Mora children on board (the two eldest still back on Ynari Prime). Kadie Mora's torment began when they dragged her, kicking and screaming, to one of the airlocks. Her father was already bloodied and crucified dead next to the opening, with her mother inside at the point of a gun, with some form of razor wire tied around her waist. As soon as she arrived, her brother's throat was slit in clear view of her and her mother. One of the aliens grabbed the loose end of the wire and brought it to Kadie. Handing it to her while another weapon was trained at her head, all it telepathically said was 'your family is now dead, but you can try to save her'. The forcefield activated, her mother screamed, and the exterior door opened sucking Neevo Mora out into space. Kadie held on as if it were her life about to be extinguished, but she couldn't. Even wrapping some of the wire around her arm, she couldn't produce enough force to keep her mother inside the airlock. Before all the skin was shredded from her arm and hands, the wire was cut, and Neevo Mora hung in space like a puppet with the strings cut. Out of a crew of three hundred, only twelve survived, and were placed in one of the escape pods and jettisoned back toward Federation space as examples for others who might encroach on the aliens' territory. To this day, Sector Eighty Three by Nine by Twelve is strictly off-limits to all Federation craft, under similar stipulations and law as Talos IV. No further information about who these aliens were is known or has been discovered. Returning home bearing the scars, her injuries turning septic and unable to heal even with the new dermal regeneration technology, she stayed secluded living with her eldest brother and his wife on Ynari Prime, not wanting to go anywhere for almost nine years. When her other brother returned on leave from a deep space assignment with Starfleet, he posed the question again 'What about Starfleet?', and thinking hard, talking a lot, now seemed like the time--she took the entrance exams for the following semester, and passed with a very high grade. Attending the Academy in 2342, Kadie had a shy and quiet personality, and didn't make friends easily. Her courses flitting from one to the other didn't help her feel grounded either, as she did not know where to focus. Her father being a security officer was a big influence and Kadie had a good grasp of principles as well as being quite handy with a pulse rifle, but she also seemed to have a natural aptitude for engineering systems and processes, coming as much of a shock to her as anyone else. In her third year, her new found love of technology and the power of the warp engine was enough to keep her studying in that field. During her Academy training, and an effort to get friends, she also found a love of martial arts, and regularly practiced several disciplines. |

| Service Record | Graduating Starfleet Academy in 2346 eleventh in her class, she was assigned to the Ambassador-class USS Adelphi as part of the engineering team. Due to her shy introverted nature, it took several years to gain her first promotion to Lieutenant Junior Grade, but it finally came in 2353 in recognition of her long, but excellent record as an Ensign. Kadie Mora's early career was uneventful patrolling the Talarian border in the Dorvan sector, until war broke out between the Federation and Tzenkethi in 2358. During this time the Adelphi was engaged in several altercations, and was ultimately destroyed in 2360 via self-destruct when they were boarded by Tzenkethi special forces. En-route to the escape hatches, Mora and several others were pinned down in a corridor cross section which temporarily became home to a plasma grenade. It blew out two sections, cost two crew members their lives and Kadie Mora her sight. They eventually escaped and were picked up by Starfleet recovery craft after the battle was over and taken back to Federation space. After they returned to Earth and the war had ended, like her people, Kadie Mora was tired of war, tired of the battle, saw herself having no business in that life, and did not wish to continue bearing the pain. Her mind was made. She resigned her commission. Filling the days was tough. Starfleet had been almost all she'd known, at least without her parents, so now fitted with occular implants, she began teaching in a civilian capacity at the Academy as a guest speaker. She enjoyed the work and continued to do it until 2374. After the Borg incursion, and when the Dominion War was in full swing, she felt honour bound to get back in the saddle, in an effort to help others not suffer as she had done. Her plan failed, and in 2375 on her second assignment she was captured by Dominion forces. She was sent to a Dominion internment camp and held there for five weeks and six days, two weeks of those spent fighting in hand to hand combat--the Jem'Hadar wanting to pit their own martial arts skills against those of Mora's being that she was well versed in several. Kadie just managed to hold her own before the war had concluded, ending her stay in the camp. After extensive rehabilitation on medical grounds, and returning to active service as a full Lieutenant, she found it once again hard to fit in, but continued to serve as an Assistant Chief Engineering Officer on the Sovereign-class USS Persephone for a further eight years. When a new engineering chief was assigned to the ship however, who she classed as younger and a lot wetter behind the ears than anyone liked to take note of, working conditions became almost unbearable, and several heated arguments between them took place. A number of transfer requests came across the Executive and the Commanding Officer's desks from both Mora and her superior, but they were all dismissed, the grounds of which were apparently discussed but never recorded. Mora continued serving aboard the Persephone under duress for a further six years, until a verbal altercation with her superior turned into a physical one. She was placed on report and suspension until a trial could be convened. The office of the Judge Advocate General heard the case and summarily forced through a transfer (among other actions to some of the senior Persephone staff), to the USS Ranger as their new Chief Engineer replacing the Acting Chief shortly before their launch to the Calamai Sector. |
