Reporting For Duty

Posted on Wed Feb 18th, 2009 @ 12:24am by Lieutenant JG Ador Shran & Captain Elsie Halliwell

905 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Citadel Prime
Location: Bridge
Timeline: Current

Ador had just arrived and made his way to the Bridge. He hadn't had time to replicate a new gold uniform yet. He still wore the green of a Marine. He wore the Uniform with pride. He wearing his class A uniform with all his overt operations medals showing, his wife's idea. She always said he looked dashing with the medals. His type 2 phaser and tricorder were in their rightful place. He liked the feeling of being prepared. He stood at the hatch of the Captain's Ready room and Rang the chime.

As Commander Lane sat there, reviewing the additional mission data just received from Captain Sheppard, the chime sang through his Ready Room and almost startled him out of his concentration. As he cleared his throat, he said, "Enter..." and the doors swished open to reveal his new Chief Sec/Tac Officer.

"Come in, 1st Lieutenant, if you would," he said as he arose from his chair.

Ador marched in and came to attention. "Good morning Captain." Ador said with a pained looking smile. He handed his orders to the Captain. "My orders sir!". He added with a salute. Ador stood shock still until the Captain returned the salute.

Raising his hand, briskly to his forehead, Commander Lane saluted his Chief Security/Tactical Officer and nodded. “At ease, Mr. Shran. But thank you for the formality.

Taking the PADD from him, he motioned before him for the 1st Lieutenant to take a seat on the other side of his desk. Sitting down, he smiled.

“Welcome to Arch, Mr. Shran. I trust that you had a pleasant journey. Can I get you anything? A drink, perhaps?

"No sir. I am fine." He said with a painful looking smile plastered on his scarred face. He sat down. "I noticed you requested me sir. I take it that you know my history. I am a mustang. I rose from the ranks. I am an old warhorse not ready to be put out to pasture." He added with a self deprecating snot of laughter.

“I did, Mr. Shran. There’s always a place onboard the Archimedes for seasoned and experienced ‘Officers’ such as yourself. However, assigning you here does come with a smattering of conditions, I am afraid. Namely, your uniform and rank, Mr. Shran.

He sighed and then fixed his blue eyes on the old Marine sat in front of him.

“I understand how proud and honoured you are to wear the Marine green that you are donning presently, however, I am afraid that should you serve as Chief Sec/Tac Officer on my Bridge then you will have to abide by procedure. That means golden collar and a Fleet rank, I’m afraid, Lieutenant.

“Is that understood?

"Aye sir. I understand and I will abide by that. I should have new uniforms as soon as my wife arrives tomorrow. I came directly from the Lancelot, Sir. I was able to keep my Marine green uniform and rank as the Assistant Tactical Officer. I can say I learned a lot from Lt. Commander Sporek." He said with a frank manner. "I think you will find I have a lot of experience with all kinds of situations. I was on the Teams during the War sir. I would request that I be given some time to evaluate the department and train them to my standards." He said with an evil looking scarred grin.

“It’s your department, Lieutenant, and I expect you to run it that way. Your team reports directly to you. Should you need anything, either myself or Lieutenant Commander Arkham will assist you in any way possible. And, Mr. Shran, I hope that you come to think as fondly of the Arch as you did of the Lancelot.

"I hope so sir. I am glad to have the opportunity to continue to serve the Federation." He said. "I understand that you have a small child yourself. My Son and Daughter will arrive tomorrow." He added with a painful looking smile.

“Well, that’s just splendid. I have to admit that that comforts me slightly knowing that my Lorelai will have other children onboard to socialise with. She’s a small ship and a smaller crew but, I’d like to think that we can all band together when we need to. Once they’re settled, I’m sure that we can arrange for a little social gathering for them. What do you say, Mr. Shran?

"Sounds fine to me sir. However, you will have to clear it with my boss." He said with a slight smirk. "I look forward to serving on the Archimedes sir." He added.

“I’m glad, Mr. Shran. And if there’s nothing else, then, you’re dismissed. I advise that you check in with your Assistant Chief, Mr. Turoc. We’ve had… some problems with his conduct and I suppose that an old ‘warhorse’, like you said, can straighten him out. Hopefully.

"Aye sir. I will sort him out. If he has too much trouble with that I have a holodeck program that will cool him off. Ice climbing on Andoria is a real team builder." He said with a evil grin. It said without words that Mr. Turoc would behave according to protocol or he would be the project for the Gunney Sargent in him.
