Mission: Shoreleave - Welcoming Old Friends and New
Location: Andicuri Bay, Aruba, Earth
Timeline: Current

Drew sighed as he sipped a cold iced tea while sitting in a lounge chair on the white sand beaches of the tropical island, Aruba. He'd spent the last seven days here with his younger brother at the insistence of his aunt. At first, he had wanted to object, knowing that it would have been useless anyway since Evelyn would have forced the issue. Now, he couldn't think of a single reason why he had wanted to object. 'This he thought, 'is perfection

Sitting up just slightly, Drew scanned the ocean for his brother, Ian. They'd had few moments apart since arriving on the island, and oddly, even fewer arguments. His eyes locked onto Ian's form, bobbing in the ocean with some friends he'd made just since they arrived. He wasn't too surprised that the group was in the water, it was really too hot for much else. The football they'd brought, with its black and white hexagons, gleamed in the brilliant afternoon light.

Drew sat back and adjust his sunglasses, pushing them up his nose. Swirling the iced tea, he surveyed the beach once more, this time more from curiosity than necessity. As he did, his eyes fell upon the last person he expected to see. You have got to be kidding me?' he thought wildly as the form of Shalie Montgomery sauntered down the white sand beach, her green Orion skin a blazing contrast to the sand itself. What are the odds?

Drew waited until she had gotten close enough to hear him before shouting, "Of all the beaches on all the planet, she has to walk onto mine." He followed it with a brilliant smile.

Shalie knew the voice, although she hadn't spotted him yet. Why me... All she had wanted was some time away from everything and everyone she knew. It didn't take her long to spot him. She thought about moving on but that wouldn't have been all that much fun. She knew that Ian was around here somewhere, but for now Drew was on his own, sprawled out on the beach. She turned and moved towards him. "You need to come with a warning beacon." She said with a devious smile and she approached him.

He smiled even wider at that. "I thought I did? Wasn't that greeting warning enough to pretend you weren't who I thought you were and keep moving on? Or do you love my company so much that you torture yourself when I'm not around? Why else would you pick Aruba as a vacation destination?"

"I picked Aruba on the assumption that you would still be in Ireland. It was the only place with a beach that was far enough from Ireland and from San Fransisco that I thought it would be safe." Shalie said with a grin. "But I was apparently wrong...now I just have to hope that San Fransisco didn't follow me also." She felt like explaining that she had randomly picked a spot on a map would have sounded like a desperate cover up even if it was true. The last thing she was going to do was give Drew ammunition against her, he was good enough at coming up with his own. She turned her back to him for a moment enjoying the sea breeze on the skin her bikini and wrap failed to cover.

"Well," Drew started, standing from his beach chair. "You sure picked the nicest place in the southern Caribbean," he said as he moved into view, throwing his sunglasses on the chair he'd vacated. "And it does have one hell of a view," he finished, implying his own presence on the beach. "Now, if you'll excuse me," he looked over Shalie in the swimsuit she barely wore, "I'm getting a bit hot."

With that, Drew smiled and ran into the ocean. The ocean water was cooler than the blazing hot atmosphere beyond, but not really by much. He swam out just a bit, dunking his head beneath the waves a couple of times before spotting his brother still bobbing off in the distance. He started swimming toward Ian and his friends, loathe to interrupt but also loathe to head back to Shalie on the beach.

After a short time in the ocean with Ian and his friends, Drew decided he'd had enough of the salt water. Swimming to the shore, Drew scanned the beach for signs of Shalie Montgomery standing around. When he saw none, he walked out of the ocean and back to his chair. Except that the umbrella had been turned to block the sun and a green skinned devil sat in his chair. With an amused smirk, he asked, "Mind if I take back my seat?"

Shalie looked up at him though the strands of hair that were streaking her face. She gently gathered them with her finger and tucked them behind her ear. Her brown eyes sparkling with amusement. "Sure you can take it....but I have no intention of giving it." She was quite certain she was going to end up in the sand one way or another and this was just more fun.

Not rising to the bait, Drew pulled his towel from the back of the chair, dried his hair and face before drying his chest and laying the towel down in the sand. Using the towel as his barrier against the gritty white sand, Drew sat square in the center of the towel and retrieved his sunglasses. Drew rummaged through the beach bag he had brought until he found the tube of sunblock he had brought with them. For everything Starfleet had, a cure for sunburn was not among them. At least he didn't think so, he would have to ask Ian later.

After applying the lotion, Drew popped the top of their cooler and drew out two clean cups and the iced tea he had packed before coming. Pouring two glasses, Drew handed one to Shalie. "It doesn't always have to be a battle between us, you know..." He paused and looked at Shalie before gulping down his glass of tea. The ocean had left his mouth both salty and dry. He quickly poured another glass and sipped it casually this time.
Shalie smiled as she sipped on the tea. "Well, I guess it is just habit...And I didn't think we were battling...dinner at your aunt's...that was a battle." Some part of her was mad at him for all the events that followed but she was just as fault for the conversation.

"Mmmhmm," Drew grunted with a mouthful of tea. When he'd swallowed, he proceeded. "A battle, if I remember correctly, that you started and then lost." He smiled, letting her know it was more a jibe than an insult.

"I normally lose with you." Shalie said with a seductive grin."And if I remember correctly Ian started it."

"Either way, dinner tonight. My cabana at eight, no Ian. He seems to be like adding gasoline to a fire."

"Sure...why not. I don't have anything better to do." she feigned boredom. She laughed as she finished her tea.

Drew nodded and lay back to soak in the sun. "Me either."
