Ian burst into Drew's room and launched himself onto the bed. The result was that Drew woke with a start, grabbed Ian by the arm and slammed him into the soft mattress. When he realized who it was, Drew let up the pressure of his arm braced across Ian's chest and apologized. "Sorry, instinct."
Drew lay back in bed with the sudden realization that he still wore the same bluejeans and t-shirt from the day before, white paint streaks running across his chest and down his thighs. Ian stayed laying next to him, allowing Drew's mind to catch up with his body. When it did, it felt like punishment. His head pounded with hangover and his mouth was dry as the Sahara. "You should be careful about jumping into my bed while I'm recovering from a hangover," he finally said to his silent brother.
"Noted for future reference," Ian said, a smile in his voice.
They stared at the ceiling in silence for a few more minute before Drew noticed the bright light outside his window. His face was a mask of confusion as he asked, "What time is it?"
Ian sat up slightly and looked at the clock on the dresser beside the bed. "One o'clock."
Drew's face became even more puzzled. "In the afternoon?"
"Well, it would be darker if it were night," Ian responded in his smart way, though he was clearly right.
"Why was I still sleeping?"
"Well," Ian started, laying back down next to Drew, "Ev and I figured after that much Guinness last night, you'd be pretty hungover. You were pissed when I put you to bed last night, we decided you'd best sleep through it."
"Probably wise, but I think another whole day might be required, kiddo."
"You don't have time. Ev says you gotta get 'yer arse' outta bed or you'll miss the transport," Ian replied, a knowing tone in his voice.
"What transport?" Drew asked with a groan as he forced himself to a sitting position. His head swam before exploding into a pounding the likes of which could only be compared to a pulsar star pounding outward and then pulling inward on the inside of his skull.
Ian hopped out the bed and moved across the room to stand by the door. "The one we're taking to Aruba. So you can take this," Ian said, tossing his brother a hypo spray. "Or you can lay here and wallow in your hangover while I go play on he beach in a tropical paradise." Ian leaned against the door frame and waited for Drew's response.
"What is it?" Drew wondered as he turned the hypo over in his hand a couple of times.
"It's called purge. Something Starfleet developed after some incident with Captain Kirk and the Klingons? I don't know the history well, but they say it's a surefire cure for your hangover." Ian smiled a moment before disappearing down the hallway.
Drew pressed the hypo to his neck and instantly felt his head clear and the ache go way. He managed to get out of bed, the stiffness in his joints working out in seconds rather than hours. By the time he reached the bathroom and stepped into the shower, he already felt fairly normal. He had to remember two things: one; that such a drug existed, and two; that his brother knew about it and he had to find out how...
