Mission:
The Shining Truth
Location: Sickbay
Shalie stretched her arm across her chest as she walked into the sickbay. Her muscles were tight and during the sparing match it threatened to pop out once more. Part of her was angry at the supposed “doctor that had “fixed her shoulder. It was so fixed that it was exactly the same. She shook her head as memories of the last few months flashed across her mind. From the disappearance of the Rook, to the torture on Targus Major and now her new home on the Archimedes. Of course they were dotted with the encounters with Drew O'Connell, but that was a whole other mess.
To her surprise, the sickbay was empty save the few people that were actual patients. She cleared her throat before speaking. “Uh…excuse me…anybody home?
"Listen, pointy-ears, I'm the Doctor here." came a voice from the bank of the Sick Bay, "Now run the scan and report back to me, that's an order." it continued, before its owner emerged pulling down his uniform cuffs distractedly as he stared at the floor.
A short Andorian stepped out of the Medical Officer's Office and paused at the sight of a new guest. His antennae narrowed forward curiously. "Can I help you?" he asked.
Shalie was amused by the Andorian, they were by far the most animated of the races she had met over her time in Star Fleet. "Uh yeah doc...I need something for my shoulder." She said as she followed the doctor to a bio bed. She bit her lip to resist the urge to explain what was going on. She wasn't in the mood to snipped at by anyone let alone any medical personnel. She would just wait and answer the questions as they came along.
Sharat glanced back at the terminal that had just stared beeping incessantly, the Vulcan he had been talking to earlier trying to quiet it. He shook his head, "...useless..." he muttered, flipping open a tricorder and scanning her shoulder. "How long you had this problem?" he asked distractedly.
"Well..." Shalie stated. "I have dislocated my shoulder about 8 times and the last time was about a month ago." She didn't figure the whole torture thing matter at this point. "Back on Earth I had surgery to have it repaired...but I don't think it worked....I could feel it starting to separate during a sparing match this morning."
"Suppose you didn't consider declining the sparring match." Sharat asked rhetorically, snapping his tricorder closed and shaking his head. "I can give you something to treat the pain, but the adjustment requires a bit of surgery, and I'm no where near qualified to do it." he said. "I'm just a resident... it just happens that I'm the only one." he said, his antennae wilting slightly as if he was embarrassed. "Scuttlebutt is though that we'll be getting a new Chief soon enough. I'm sure they can do it, no problem." he continued. "Shall I get you that hypo?" he asked.
Shalie nodded to except his offer. The idea of declining the match had never crossed her mind. As he returned she replied. "It wasn't until a few months ago that I even thought it could be repaired so going easy on it has never been my focus....I can easily wait until the new chief arrives." She exposed the side of her neck so that the hypospray could be administered. Almost instantly the ache in her muscle began to dissipate.
"Until then, however, keep away from the sparring matches." he continued, folding his arms across his chest. "Don't make me order you into a sling." he added seriously.
Shalie scowled slightly. "What if I just take it easy?" She said almost pleadingly. She had no idea when the new doctor was going to arrive and every time this happened she kicked herself for not letting the doctor on the Rook fix it the last time. She could tell by the look on the Andorian's face that that wasn't going to be a good enough compromise. The last thing she needed was trying to do her job with a sling in the way. "Fine...no more....sparring" she said with a sigh. "Do you happen to have any idea when this Doctor is supposed to arrive?"
"Whenever it is we find our way back to Earth, which should be soon enough." the Doctor replied, not really believing that she was going to take it easy, but without any real reason to force the sling on her. Of course, he didn't tell her that the medication he gave would dull the pain, but if she moved her arm while it was working any more than for minor movements, the after affects of the medication would make the pain ten times worse that it had been to start. It was just keeping her honest.
"So, you'll come back if it starts bothering you again?" he asked, smiling inwardly because he knew she'd be back and in pain because she didn't listen.
Shalie didn't move her arm much. Not because it still hurt but she needed the doc to at least believe she was going to take it easy, and she had all intentions of doing so. The road to hell is paved with good intentions, she thought to her self as she hopped off the bio bed. "If it gets to be more then I can handle then you will be seeing me again." She nodded to the doctor before heading out of the sick bay. She still needed to get ready for her shift...meetings with her department and a sensor diagnostics would make for a well rounded day.
