Mission: Behind the Mask of Familiarity
Location: Lane's Ready Room
Timeline: Current

ON:

Commander Lane sat in the chair of his ready room, looked down at the singular golden pip that rested on the surface of his desk, and smiled. The slight glint from the low-lights above him caught his eye as the embedded screen smoothly rose from within the desk in front of him.

"Computer," he asked, as he plucked the yet untouched pip with his fingers and fastened it tightly to join the other three on his maroon collar, "open a channel Admiral Wright, Starfleet Command, Diplomatic office." The computer chimed as he waited, and then the face of a middle-aged man, younger than one would expect of most admirals, appeared on-screen.

"Admiral Robinson, how are you?" he asked.

"Coltan, my old man, how are you?" he replied with a cheery smile. "It's been, what, six months since I've heard from you? Congratulations on the promotion, too. I received the memo earlier this week."

Lane smiled and nodded to his old friend. "Thank you," he replied, genuinely, "but that is not why I have contacted you. I need you to do me a favour."

A grin spread across Wright's face as the penny dropped. "And, I haven't forgotten that I owe you one," he smiled. "What can I do for you?"

"It's my Chief Intelligence Officer, Admiral…" he started with before he was cut short.

"Ah, Mr. Kemmer," he interjected. "I keep more of a watch on you and your ship than you think, Captain," he beamed. He sighed a little and then continued. "I'll do everything I can for him. And I'll keep you in the loop as best as I can."

"That's all I was asking for, sir," Lane replied. "And thank you."

"What are old friends for?" the Admiral asked rhetorically.

"Indeed, Admiral. Indeed."
