Mission:
Behind the Mask of Familiarity
Location: Briefing Room, Deck One
Timeline: Current
ON:
Lane walked onto the bridge to find Arkham sat in her chair, staring out into the abyss beyond the viewscreen. The blue and green marble of Citadel Prime hung loosely in space before both their eyes, a pearly sphere floating amongst a sea of glistening stars.
The sound of the turbolift doors closing behind the Trill notified Arkham of his presence. "Captain," she said, the hint of a knowing smirk creeping across her ruined face. "Congratulations on the promotion." She stood from the chair and rounded the rail, extending a congratulatory hand out greet him.
"I only found out earlier today, Commander. I haven't told a soul as yet," he replied, narrowing his eyes upon hers. And then the thought dawned on him and his face betrayed his realisation. "I guess you never really need informing about anything through the official channels, do you, Rowena?"
A slight nod smoothly lowered Arkham's face as she fixed her eyes upon him.
"Harwood?" he asked.
She simply replayed the gesture. "Congratulations, Captain. It was on the cards the moment the Arch was tasked to this sector. Apparently, Command feels that the authority and experience of a captain would better serve not only their interests, but also the situation as a whole."
"Understandable," he said returning the nod.
"So," Arkham replied, a slight gravel to her voice, "are you finally going to open that bottle of vintage scotch that you have hidden in your ready room that you think I know nothing about?"
Lane smiled and gestured with his arm for her to go first. "I suppose it is a celebration after all…"
