Three days travelling at low warp was not the prefered method of travel, but that was Starfleets elected mode of transportation for Ensign Reed Darius as he made the transition from Earth - from studying at Starfleet Academy - to the USS Archimedes.

As an ensign, it appeared that Reed was only just arriving from the Academy, but there was more space duty underneath his belt then met the eye. Prior to attending SA for refresher courses Reed had commanded the bridge of a Starfleet tug during the graveyard shift before any of the Archimedes' crew were even born. Indeed, he was not from the 24th century and in true defiance of physics, contrary to what the Vulcan Science Directorate had dictated centuries before, the Vulcan-Betazoid officer had been thrown forward in time and space, transversing 106 years of history. The transition had been, difficult, to say the least.

On the voyage to Citadel Ensign Darius had become familar with the Archimedes and her exploits since departing from drydock. The crew seemed, ehr, decent and from what Reed had read in unclassified reports, they appeared capable of handling emergency situations - well, if one lowly ensign was qualified to judge them, that is.

The problems that had plagued the Archimedes were not foreign to the ensign as he boarded the nova class starship. Mere hours before his arrival at Citadel Reed had heard the news, courtesy of the FNN, that Starfleet had a suspect in relation to the infection of the Archimedes' bio-neual gel packs. Though he was pleased that someone was in custody for the crime, Reed was admittedly disappointed that it meant the investigation would shortly be coming to a close. Discovering who and what was tampering with those gel packs would have been one helluva way to make his mark on board a new ship.

That would not be the last chance for scientific exploration however, as the Archimedes was built with the purpose of short term scientific exploration in mind. As he made his way through the corridors on the relatively small vessel Reed knew that he would find something with which to impress his colleagues and earn him a place within her science department.
