[OLD]

"There is never a good time," T'mpest said. "As far as I am concerned, this is perfect. You have time to get used to your new rank while you are on leave. I for one think this is long past due."

[NEW]

Adriana blinked at the rank insignia in her hand for a moment longer then looked back up to the Captain. "Thank you, Ma'am," she said again. Her eyes flicked back to the doorway of her recovery room and to her family waiting out there. She wondered for a moment which was heavier- the tiny baby she'd just given birth to, or the tiny box she'd just been handed.

T'mpest was not unaware of Adrianna's feelings. "I will leave you now. I'm sure you would prefer to spend time with you family." She gave the new mother a polite half-bow before departing.

"There is someone else who wants to show how proud he is with his mother." Keen brought Anthony over and placed him in her arms. "You got both wishes Kitten." He kissed her forehead. "Senior Chief and your first Little One."

She fumbled for just a second, trying to hold both the box in her hand and the baby, before she just let the box fall into her lap. Later, she told herself. She would handle that later. Right now she had something much more important, much more pressing, to figure out.

Heather had noticed the moment the Captain had entered sickbay, but had not wanted to intrude upon the moment between the three, now four, of them. She just quietly observed everything with a smile for a bit before turning back to check on Lieutenant Foster. So far, he was still sedated, but seeing as how the surgery and pregnancy had gone, she didn't expect anything more to happen once he awoke.

Once she was done checking on Foster, she headed back towards the office, wanting to update Adriana's medical file and to begin work on creating one for the newest Keen family member. In a few days she or Jensen would preform a routine physical on the baby, as was required of all doctors.

When T'mpest finished talking to the Keens, she went in search of Doctor Quinn. She saw Heather walking towards her office and altered her course to intercept her. "Hello, Doctor. How is Doctor Foster doing?"

"Hello, Captain," Heather responded. "Please, step into the office." She motioned for T'mpest to take one of the chairs and then took the one behind the desk once the Captain was seated. Folding her hands delicately over the shining surface of the table top, Heather spoke, "He's been having a rather rough time since the mission, ma'am. I know that he had the dampening field installed for his quarters and it's been helping during his off-duty hours. But, when he's here in sickbay, that's when his ability..." Heather sighed and looked down at her hands.

Looking back up a second later she said, "This last occurrence was the worst one so far, ma'am. He didn't even get to help during the surgery or birth, I had to sedate him and have one of the medical ensigns watch over him. Frankly, I'm not sure what to do, ma'am. This is the sixth time I've had to sedate Doctor Foster."

"What have you done so far to help him?" T'mpest asked.

"Two of the medical staff have offered to try to help Doctor Foster with his mental abilities, but he firmly refuses. I'm fairly certain he doesn't want a repeat of what happened last time he and another tried to help each other mentally. And as far as anything medically technological, I haven't the slightest clue what would help. The only thing that seems to be working is sedating him." Heather paused and looked away for a few seconds.

Turning back she said, "I know I'm the Assistant Chief, but it just feels wrong of me to relieve him of duty. But... I'm running out of options, both medically and personally. I really feel, unless Jensen gets some help, I'm going to have to do just that. And while I'm not exactly thrilled with the idea that if the crew found out that their Chief Medical Officer has been relieved of duty..." The dark-skinned woman sighed heavily, feeling as if she were carrying a 1,000-ton weight on her shoulders. "I'm sorry, Captain. But I don't see any other option. And I know that if I were to ask Doctor Foster if he'd be OK with being relieved of duty, he'd be all stubborn as a bull and say he's fine."

"I want him to get better," T'mpest said. "Whatever that takes. If you haven't already, contact his family. I believe he has a brother who might know how to help him. Keep me informed as to his progress and if there is anything I can do to help."

A nurse came to the door seeking Dr. Quinn's help. T'mpest gave a short, Vulcan bow to Heather. "I will speak with you later." With that she returned to the bridge.
