Mission:
A Civil Act
Location: Mess Hall
Timeline: during the interim of What Dreams are Made Of & A Civil Act
ON:
Jensen walked into the mess hall, intending to get something to eat and head back to his quarters where he'd be safely protected from the crew's emotions by the dampening field that'd been installed recently. So far, he'd spent most of his off-duty time there and he'd at least been able to meditate more easily. As far as being on-duty... his meditating just seemed to have been for naught at the slightest mental pick-up... It was getting ridiculous.
Sighing, Jensen headed towards the replicators and that was where he practically bumped into the ensign who was heading there himself.
Theon was too busy caught up in his own thoughts, what with having recently transferred to the Ranger and getting himself acquainted with his fellow crewmates, that he hadn't really been paying attention as he walked up to the replicators in the mess hall. That would explain why he was now suddenly finding himself holding up a rather short, blonde haired man in a teal Starfleet uniform.
Once the room stopped spinning, Jensen found that he was being held up by a pair of rather muscular arms and practically squashed against an equally muscular chest. Feeling rather embarrassed, he gently pushed away from the man (which made him think of a fly trying to push against a bulkhead) and busied himself with unruffling his uniform, while apologizing for not paying attention.
"No, no! I should have been watching where I was going," Theon replied as the two of them oriented themselves and separated to an arms-width apart. Theon smiled down at the man, mildly taking note of their height differences, and found himself rather intrigued to discover that the man he'd bumped into had the same distinctive eye coloring as himself.
Hoping to smooth things over, the young Betazoid introduced himself. "I'm Theon."
Staring upwards, Jensen found himself staring into a pair of dark eyes, not unlike his own, and a youthfully handsome face. "I'm Jensen," he uttered out feeling rather awkward, but then shoved it aside quickly as he continued, "I'm the Chief Medical Officer aboard the Ranger." He smiled afterwards, hoping to banish any of the lingering awkwardness; if only for his benefit.
"Nice to meet you, Lieutenant, I'm one of the new Flight Control Officers," Theon replied, having noticed the pips on the man's uniform. He gave his own smile in return the offered one. "Now that we've got the introductions out of the way, how about we get some lunch? I'm assuming that is the main reason we are both here."
"Your powers of observation are astounding, Ensign," Jensen answered with a slight chuckle. "Let's order, shall we?"
After they ordered, Theon followed the lieutenant to one of the vacant tables. He did note that it was one of the corner tables and his curiosity was piqued. But catching the errant thoughts from the lieutenant, he thought otherwise of inquiring. That and he'd just met the man and figured it wasn't proper conversation. Taking a bite of his sandwich he mulled over what to ask, while casually watching the man across from him. Theon couldn't deny that the other man was attractive, but he wasn't one to just jump on the first attractive man he saw.
Slipping into his normal attitude of cool-collected, he inquired, "What can you tell me about yourself, Lieutenant?"
"Oh, well..." Jensen began, but faltered, unsure of what to say or how much information to divulge... "I... Um... Well..." He stared down at his tray of food, hoping that a topic of interest would come out of his mouth and stop this foolish stammering. Why the devil do I feel so foolishly tongue-tied at the moment? He asked me a perfectly normal question?! Jensen looked up for a split second at the young man across from him and then realized the reason for his sudden tongue-tied-ness, it was the way the young man was staring at him... With that damn smirk... Ugh... you don't need this right now, Jensen! You don't need to get all attracted to the new ensign, especially since you've apparently got feelings for Rylie... He sighed and then looked back up, and made an attempt at getting his mouth and mind to make words. He only succeeded in stammering some more.
Eden walked into the mess hall, fully intending to just grab a quick meal before heading back down to Main Engineering; she and her staff were in the middle of a full systems diagnostic and so far everything was checking out alright. Sighing to herself, she ordered a raktajino and some makapa bread. She felt she could use a kick in the backside at the moment.
As she turned to find a spot to sit, she noticed Jensen sitting in one of the corner tables. While she'd come to expect that of him lately, what really caught her eye was the devilishly handsome Betazoid ensign sitting with him. An almost cheeky smile came to her as she watched them for a few seconds. At least she and Heather's plan was taking root. She noticed that Jensen was stammering rather horridly, trying to get words to come out of his mouth and the ensign had a rather amused expression on his face. Shaking her head slightly, she headed over, hoping to spare Jensen further embarrassment.
Eden interrupted the pair, "Good afternoon, gentlemen. Mind if I join you?"
Looking up at the soft voiced inquiry, Jensen smiled when he saw Eden. Slightly thanking the heavens, he answered, "Of course! Please, take a seat." He motioned towards the open chair just in front of her.
Taking the open seat, Eden smiled at the ensign sitting at the other seat. "You don't mind do you, Ensign...?"
"Zinovia, ma'am. And no, I don't mind," Theon replied with a warm smile of his own. While he'd been secretly enjoying the stammering of the Lieutenant, he was thankful that the Chief Engineering Officer had interrupted when she did; he wasn't sure if he'd been able to keep from laughing at how adorable he'd found the other male's flushed stammering.
"Nice to meet you, Ensign Zinovia, I'm Lieutenant Zayra, Chief of-"
"Engineering," Theon interrupted with a cheeky gleam in his eyes. "I familiarized myself with the senior staff of the Ranger during my first few days aboard."
"Oh, did you?" Eden said, taking a sip from her raktajino. As she enjoyed the slightly bitter taste of the liquid, she couldn't help but chuckle on the inside at the attitude of the man. He was doing better than she and Heather had hoped. And he was rather handsome...
Turning back to Jensen, she said, "So, what did I interrupt?" She winked for good measure afterwards, enjoying the slight flushing of Jensen's cheeks.
"You don't have to answer if you don't want to, Lieutenant. I realize that it might be rude to ask about ones personal life when we haven't even worked together professionally," Theon said, watching the silent exchange between Eden and Jensen. Even though he was telepathic, he didn't dare use his gift to intrude upon another's mind without their consent. And his telepathy wasn't strong enough that he was constantly bombarded by the thoughts of others. It had everything to do with the Betazoid mental techniques he'd learned as a child and teenager that made it possible to be so discreet as telepath.
"No, it's fine, really," Jensen said, taking control of himself and looking at the younger male quickly before turning his gaze back to Eden. "The ensign simply asked if there was anything I wished to share about myself. That's all."
