Mission: What Dreams May Come
Location: Deck 6

ON

Keen came running down the corridor with the Tricorder to make it easier for him as he saw the vitals went diffrent, her heart rate and breathing were suddenly serene, she was in real trouble. He came to the door and using a tricorder he managed to get the power cells located. He fired a phaser to the wall where the power connection to the force field. The field had dropped easily before he rushed through the door to find Kitten collasped.

"Kitten!" Keen cried out as he all but dove upon his fallen wife, cradling her in his arms.

It was several seconds before Adriana started to stir.  Recalling the last thing she saw, she started to panic.  "Morai," she murmured, struggling weakly, still groggy, "help."  She started reaching for her stomach, checking on Little One.  If she was at Brex's mercy, the baby would take the brunt of his hate.

"I am here love." He said as he look into her eyes. "He will not take you, I will not let him." He caressed her hair as he gave her a forced smile. "Little One is safe..."

She reached up and grabbed him weakly, almost shaking in fear.  "He's following me," she whispered.  She was fully conscious now, fully aware of what she saw.  The entire right side of her face was swelling and starting to throb in pain.  "Everywhere I go, I can't get away from him, he keeps finding us.  He wants Little One and I can't get away from him."  She started to cry and pulled her husband closer.

Keen held the woman he loved close; he could never resist his wife in any form and especially his Kitten in tears. "No one will hurt you or Little One... you know that I will give whatever it takes to make sure that you and Little One are safe?" Keen assured. "No one will get my family."

For several minutes Adriana just cried, her frustration and fear and stress finally getting out and she wept in the safety provided by her husband's arms.

Keen felt like he was where he is always destined to be, he clutched her only with a half hug with his phaser in the other to defend his family.

"It is okay Kitten, I am here and no one will hurt you." Keen assured her.

Exhausted after days of fitful sleep and fear, Adriana finally quieted when she ran out of energy to cry.  Her face hurt and her head ached and she doubted Morai was very comfortable sitting on the floor and holding her like he was, but she just couldn't seem to muster the energy to move, even to get up off the hard floor.

"Stay where you are, we are holding up here until we find out what is going on here but as with the Breen or the Borg... so long as we are together we will not be separated." He smiled. "We have a larger family on the ship and they will help get through this as well?"

She shivered a little.  "They don't believe me either.  I tried going to Security.  They wouldn't believe me and look for Brex."

"No one will ever catch me." Brex stood in the now unprotected doorway. "Thank you, Stone Vedek, for clearing the path, it is much easier this way, nothing to stop things from going where they should."

"How did you get here?" Keen asked as he put up the phaser.

"Naturally she brought me here." Brex looked down upon Adriana. "We have unfinished business."

Adriana sat frozen.  She couldn't speak, couldn't run, just shook her head and covered her stomach as if she could protect the baby with her body.

"She brought you here?" Keen said with a piece of logic. "She could not have brought you here, you wanted her not to marry me and taint my bloodline." He lowered the phaser. "You never leave Bajor and even to get here you would need to leave your followers..." Keen continued.

"They would understand for purifying the lineage of the Stone Vedek." Brex interjected.

"Your followers would wonder if you were not around?" Keen said and he started to laugh. "No one in the Federation would let you near us as I personally placed you on a type of  'Restraining Order' if you leave Bajor.... how did you get here?"

"How is not important and never will be," Brex said.  "What is important is that you have made a serious error.  You would not listen to reason, and now it has come to this.  I did not wish to harm you, Vedek Keen, but you have left me with no choice.  I will have to remove you, but only temporarily.  You will wake after this is all over, and some day you will understand that I am only doing this for Bajor."  He lifted the phaser he was carrying and started to take aim at Keen.

"You do not exist, Brex." Keen said as he glanced at the ground. "No more than a harmeless ghost from a nightmare or a low energy hologram according to my Tricorder..." He said with confidence. "Shooting me will not take me from the scene and you cannot harm my family from Bajor where you are."

"Are you certain of that?  Ever heard of 'being scared to death?'"  Brex smiled and shifted the phaser to point at Adriana, more specifically at her belly, at the baby.

Adriana screamed.

Keen pressed the settings to the appropriate level and pressed the button. The lance of light should tear him into nothing more than vapor.

"Die..." Keen said calmly.

Adriana watched in horror as Brex was struck.  He only had time for a short scream before he disintegrated from a kill-level phaser hit.  She had feared and loathed Brex for years- ever since he'd abducted and whipped her about the time she'd become engaged to Morai.  He was a racist and a hate-monger.  He'd ENJOYED whipping her and ripping her ear ring out of her flesh; he'd ENJOYED hearing her scream; he thought it was RIGHT to attack and disfigure any non-Bajoran who wanted to live with or marry a Bajoran.  He thought Bajorans were superior, were purer, and that getting involved with off-worlders sullied them.  Just her presence on Bajor had infuriated him; bearing a half-Bajoran child was, to him, vile and sickening.

It had always lurked in the back of Adriana's mind that Bajor was not really safe for her, and that any child she and Morai had could be in danger if they weren't careful while on Planet.  But seeing him vaporized in front of her- of knowing that Morai had just killed a man because of her- left her horrified and saddened and she hated to think of how heavy this guilt would be for him.

"There are only three life signs in this room Kitten." Morai showed the Tricorder, "There have ONLY been three in here." He showed her the life signs..  "One Bajoran, a human and Little One." He assured and showed his Phaser was on the minimal setting one step above a flashlight.

She took the tricorder and pulled back up the previous scans.  She couldn't find evidence of a fourth vital sign in the room.  "But- But I saw him.  I've seen him several times.  YOU just saw him..." she argued weakly, starting to shake and turning her face up to look at him.  There was fear in her eyes still, but a different kind of fear; this was fear that she really was going crazy.

"It is something that is affecting us." Keen said calmly, "but the tricorder is our best chance to have the reality." He explained.

"What about the other times I saw him?  He...  He was HERE.  He chased me- twice-" she said again; it was hard to dismiss what she had seen, the fears she had felt for the past few days. "

"He is not here now and will not be back." Keen assured her while caressing her back. "No one will hurt my Kitten or Little One."

Adriana shuddered and wrapped her arms around him, clutching him tightly.  "Stay with me.  Please, Keen Cat, stay with me.  D-don't leave me alone where he can get me."

"I am going nowhere." Keen assured, "but staying here is not the wisest thing, we need to get somewhere the Prophets can protect us as well." Keen knew of a place where they would be safe no matter what came after them, he just had to get her back to their quarters, if this was all in their heads the safest place is always ... home.
