Mission: What Dreams May Come
[CONTINUED]
[OLD]
"Is therrre anything Science can do?" T'kaarch purred, "Can we combine ourrr experrrtises in orrrderrr to find this... someone or something?"
"Possibly." Cattmor started to say when something jumped to the forefront of her mind, before T'mpest cut her off, and stated pretty much what she was thinking. At that moment she wasn't sure she was speaking from memory, projected that thought to T'mpest's head, or was picking up what T'mpest was already thinking about.
"Definitely. If this is a neurogenic presence or device we need to identify it and find a way to block or reverse its effects," T'mpest said. It was a logical conclusion. The problem was identifying the cause. "Scans show nothing unusual in the gas cloud or on the Ranger. So if there is something here, it is not easily identified."
[NEW]
"Not yet anyway..." Jensen added, trailing off as he recalled some data from the PADD in his medical kit and handed it over to T'mpest. "The scans we've done on the crew have yielded something interesting. Something which Lieutenant T'kaarch might be able to help with. We noticed that whenever someone is affected by the neurogenic field, there's a slight wave pattern that emanates from them to whatever or whoever is causing the field. My team and I haven't been able to narrow it down any more than that, but I believe if you have anyone that could accompany me to Sickbay we might be able get a far better grasp of where the neurogenic field is coming from."
Shaking off his anxiety, T'kaarch sprang into action. "Ensign Edwarrrds, I want you to go with the doctorrr and analyze this neurrrogenic field. I'll stay herrre and adapt the scannerrrs to whateverrr you find." He then turned to T'mpest, "With yourrr perrrmission, of courrrse."
It took Tavanna a bit to answer back, being lost in her own thoughts after what had transpired on the bridge only moments ago. And now with what had been revealed, she could feel her adrenaline kick in full force. Looking up from the console she was seated at, Tavanna looked from the Lieutenant T'kaarch to the Chief Medical Officer before answering. "Yes, sir." She quickly moved to stand next to the Lieutenant, waiting to hear the Captain's answer.
T'mpest nodded to T'kaarch. "Make it so."
She turned to the doctor. "Is there a way to block the neurogenic field?" she asked. "If we know the wave pattern, we can set the scanners to look for it specifically. See if there's anything that will help us identify what is causing this reaction."
Turning away from the console, Jensen said, "If there is a way to block it, we'll find it ma'am." He looked to the young woman at his side and motioned for her to follow him. It would be best if they got started right away. No time like now to get to it. Looking at the Commander as he and the science ensign exited he said, "I'll update as soon as I can." With that they walked into the turbolift.
Cattmor watched the officers exit the bridge as two words kept repeating in her head--work quickly.
Rubbing the chill from his arms Blake returned back to his post feeling more shaken than he'd care to admit regarding Sinhta's death. It wasn't like he'd seen a person passing before, it was the way it happened that had Dylan so spooked, and how he was conceived he'd seen something the other day. Hallucinations or not the Lieutenant should have been paying more attention to the sensor reading that were now pleading for his attention. With a shake of his head to collect his thoughts he bought up the data he'd been receiving.
A shiver marched down his spine - this couldn't just be coincidence, right?
"Captain," he called licking his sudden dry lips already fearful what they may discover. "I'm receiving strange sensor readings, mostly metal compounds directly ahead." He looked up with a slight pause, "I think its another ship."
"On screen," T'mpest said. "Any signs of life?"
Blake consulted the sensors again, "I'm not picking up anything ma'am."
The debris field looked more like the remnants of a battle zone. There was nothing large enough for a humanoid. Even the escape pods were in pieces. "Tactical, what caused the damage?"
That was what T'mpest expected, but she still hoped for a better result. "Find as much information as you can."
She turned to Rylie. "I fear the pattern is repeating itself on the Ranger."
Rylie couldn’t steal herself away from the image on the main view screen to respond right away. The other ship was not large by any means, but having been on the Edmorn, experienced its effects, walked through the same bloodied corridors; to sense the loss of life, remnants of the other two crew’s consciousness, however feint it was, was tying up her thought process. Images of similar struggles happening out there, long before even the Edmorn arrived in the cloud, flashed before her, overlaying the view screen with the hideous situation they had faced; crew against crew, death from persistent visions, personal mutilations, the list went on. What Commander Michaels had just said suddenly hit her; she blinked a few times trying without any success to shut out the thoughts from everywhere around her. Approaching, she quietly and finally responded, "I hope you’re wrong, commander." She said biting her lower lip.
"So do I," the Captain responded. "But logic, and the evidence before us, dictates otherwise."
