Mission: What Dreams May Come
ON
The voices in T'mpest's head were becoming more strident. Although her first choice was to stay locked away in her Ready Room or quarters, it was not only illogical it would accomplish nothing. She had to get answers and she had to get them fast.
Although she hadn't really met the man, she made her way to security to see if the illusive ch'Valri had any answers.
She walked into the main security office and looked around for the Andorian.
Morgana stood up from her desk and put the PADD down. She wasn't expecting anything to happen today, as Orin ordered the rest of the security teams on patrol. With the bridge station manned by another officer, she didn't have much else to do but catch up on her reading, finding it odd why he insisted on pulling her away from her usual duty. Although, if he wanted to keep her close then that meant there was something wrong and she knew better than to push.
"Hello Captain." She said in her british accent as she stood at attention, clearing her throat a bit. "What can security do for you, Ma'am?"
The woman's voice echoed inside T'mpest's head. Great, another strong telepath. "Is Lieutenant ch'Valri available?" She asked.
Morgana picked up a slight discomfort coming from the Captain. She knew better than to pry, but when she was asking for Orin, she thought it was curious. "The Lieutenant is in his officer. I'll see if he is up for company." She said as she tapped on the console at her desk. "Boss? Captain Michael's is here to see you, Sir."
That made T'mpest wonder what sort of security officer ch'Valri was to have his assistant deal with ship matters while he hid in his office. Although a part of her wanted to do the same thing, it still raised suspicions.
There was a bit of a pause on the other end, followed by soft breaths against the com before she heard his voice over the speaker. "Give me a minute, Deathstrike, than send her in. Nite Owl out." He replied as the com seemed to cut quickly.
He sounded out of sorts. Morgana could tell, since Orin was always so professional and stern, but this time his voice was different. Angry almost. She knew he was fighting off some bad memories, that was common, but it never effected him like this. Reluctantly, she looked over to the Captain and said softly. "Give him a moment, Captain." She said as she sat back down and picked up her PADD again. "The Lieutenant keeps the lighting in his office dim, so please don't be alarmed by that. His eyes are sensitive to bright lights."
She wondered if he'd seen a doctor about that, but chose to say nothing. Instead, T'mpest waited for Morgana to let her into the inner office. She was even less sure of the man who was now her Chief of Security than she was before.
A message flashed on the corner of Morgana's console. It was from Orin, giving her the all clear. She was even more concerned. Hoping that whatever issue Orin was going through would be less apparent in front of the Captain, as she felt a lurking suspicion coming from her. "Lieutenant ch'Valri is ready now, Captain. You can go in." She gestured to the door, but decided to keep an ear, and mind, out for anything she might believe is wrong.
"Thank you," T'mpest replied.
As the doors opened, T'mpest noticed the chair facing the door was turned away, hiding Orin from the incoming light of the outside room. The office was clean, spotless almost. Military decorations on the wall behind him and not much else of a personal nature. No photos. Nothing close to being from Andor. It was like he made sure to keep a distance from anyone else who wasn't on his team.
As soon as the doors closed she heard his voice coming from the other side of the chair. "Forgive the lack of light, Captain. If you like, I can bring the lights up to normal and put on my goggles." He said as his hand reached out from the chair towards the goggles on his desk. "I understand it makes some people uncomfortable. I only ask you blame bad genetics and not dramatic subterfuge."
"I'm not afraid of the dark -- or what lurks in it," T'mpest replied wryly. She'd read his file and knew of his light sensitivity, but she was still unsure of what sort of man kept to himself as much as this one did.
"Clearly you've never been to through war." Orin replied as he turned the chair around so he could face her. He looked towards her. Although it didn't seem it, he could see perfectly. Almost as better than anyone if the lights in the room were at normal, or brighter. "Then again, being half vulcan I doubt you scare easy, Ma'am." He added with a pleasant smile and light laugh. "So, what brings you to my dim corner of the ship?"
"What brings me here is the fact that I don't scare easily," she replied. She observed him for a long moment. "Something is affecting everyone on this ship. I need security to keep control."
Orin raised a brow as he leaned back in his chair. The Antennae on his head shifted slightly as he started to speak. "If you're not afraid, than why think we aren't in control?" He paused slightly, placing his hands on his lap and let out a soft sigh from his lips. "I assure you, Captain, I have every security team out there keeping a handle on this. I remind you that they are being affected as well. Short of going out there myself with my own team, I am not sure exactly what you want me to do. Has medical come up with an explanation for whats going on?"
