Personal log of Counsellor Ensign Lucy Carter stardate 63849.76.

Commander Rowena Arkham was shot today in the conference. I did not see who did it. The situation took a turn for the worse when the delegates started shouting about the Federations' loyalties - I do not understand what happened.

The Commander probably saved my life as she pulled me to the floor at the first indication of weapons' fire. For that alone, I am indebted to her.

The Commander lost a good deal of blood but in her typical stubborn way, claimed she was all right and insisted I withdraw and inform Commander Lane of the situation. I must have used five field dressings on her haemorrhaging abdomen. I still have her blood on my hands.

I need to collect my thoughts. And I need a bath.
