Mission: Unmasked Miners

ON:

As Elsie left her ready room, she quickly tapped her combadge to contact her First Officer, and made her way to the bridge to collect another sensor reading from the Science station. "Halliwell to Michaels. Commander, can you have all relevant personnel report to the briefing room immediately, please?"

"Aye, ma'am." As soon as the connection was severed, T'mpest sent out the call.

"Thank you," and with that she deactivated the communication line and walked over to Jimmy who had just himself approached the science terminal. "Lieutenant," she uttered by way of a greeting, "can you download all recent telemetary from our sensors and the probe's and make your way to the briefing room? I'll follow you shortly."

"Already on it, Captain." In fact, Jimmy already had most of the information ready, so it was simply a matter of passing the information through to the briefing room. He decided to set up the main briefing screen with live images of the planet and the moon, as well as information on both. Apart from that, he had teamed up with Commander Michaels (after a noted protest from Crewman Birsi) in order to get all the information from the Romulan presence in order.

He was already well seated when the other officers started filing in the briefing room. Doctor Fox was first among them, setting himself down along the table with a feint smile.

"Captain." he muttered quickly in his deep rumble before turning his attention back to the PaDD he had brought with him. Generally these meetings had little to do with Medical, unless a few of the Officers got unruly and couldn't keep their hands off each other. One might laugh, but Fox had seen it happen. Twice. Even still, that generally meant that he had to sit quietly and listen without really offering too much to the conversation unless directly queried. Such was the life of the Chief Medical officer. Always the bridesmaid, never the bride.

T'mpest walked into the room and nodded to the others. "Good day," she said as she took her seat.

Shepherd entered a few moments later, nodded to the current group, and found a seat.

Leo walked into the room and glanced around. He wasn't sure exactly why he was called to the meeting. Him not being a real vital aspect to much at the moment. None the less he walked over to a nearby seat and took a seat. He nodded at a few of the people who managed to look his way.

Feeling sheepish that his timekeping had been off track Blake slide into his normal seat without comment as the Captain moved restlessly.

Elsie made her way into the briefing room once all other parties were seated. There seemed little point to the captain to remain seated at the head of the table whilst officers and crewmen shuffled in and took their own pews and so, rather uncharacteristically, slipped into the room afterwards. Unlike usual meetings she chaired, this was a little last minute, and the table was not adorned with the usual informal spread of pastries and hot beverages. Instead, the table was stark and free of distraction and clearly Halliwell wanted to get down to business as soon as she could.

She rounded the table and remained standing to deliver the news and orders she had received. Placing both hands in front of her, her slender arms supported her slight frame as she leant in and began to speak. "I have just conferenced with Admiral Singh of Headquarters who has informed me that without direct provocation from the Romulans, we are unauthorised to actively confront them. So..." she paused, looking about at her own eyes and ears dotted about the oddly shaped table, "this means that we need to passively determine exactly what happened here to the planet and whether the Romulans had a hand in it."

To Blake's ears that came as a relief, or at least for now since the crew will not be actually going to the planet surface, instead to continued to monitor and gather infomation.

Alex Kendrick was a little later than she wanted to be--after all she had other work to attend to--or what was expected, as she entered the briefing room just catching the last of Halliwell's sentence. Her arrival being a somewhat bigger distraction than she would have liked, most eyes turned to her for her untimely interruption of arrival. She stopped in the doorway for but a second before a cursory, maybe even snide, smile and a small wave of her gloved hand. "Don't mind me," she said to the crowd, the first time she'd actually spoken to many of them, before she took a backward facing seat, arms resting on the back, in the corner by the potted plant.

Birsi minded the unfamiliar voice despite the abundance of reading she'd brought. The occasional senior staff member still eluded her familiarity a little more than a week in, but it wasn't until now that taking a moment to sift through memory or context proved wholly futile in meaningfully identifying the other woman. . .

"If I may, Captain," Jimmy walked to the screen, "Here's all data we collected on the planet. Projections indicate that the water level increase was sudden, and recent, most likely no more then 3 years ago."

Lieutenant Blake shuddered visibly having experienced a sudden rush of water personally at a young age, the memory alone and image of such a recurrence made him sweat in his seat.

"Go on," she replied, pulling back the chair and seating herself delicately, shooting an placid look to Alex as she did so.

"Yet it seems the people were mostly prepared for it," Jimmy continued, "as great ships have been built to house small cities worth of people. Scans were inconclusive on the cause, and how the people knew beforehand is guesswork at best, with the current information."

"It is this, specifically, that we are to distract ourselves with whilst we wait for another ship to enter the sector and convene with us. Captain Zaragoza of the Pelican has already been dispatched to assist us here... Romulan threat or not." Elsie fell silent a moment and studied the room around her; the faces of her crew staring back at her.

Instantly Blake felt his face whiten and his pulse leap - the Captain wanted them to investigate further? What about the Romulans?

'More assistance?' Kendrick thought. 'Oh my... are you not capable of completing a mission off your own back, Halliwell?'

"Crewman Sessan," Halliwell then directed her gaze, "if you'd care to join Lieutenant Cooper at the screen."

Having delved further into making sense out of Kendrick than she realized, Birsi's eyes met Halliwell's inelegantly. Fortunately, the only other necessary acknowledgement was to do as the captain had mentioned. Along with preserving her dignity, the stellar cartographer was able to return her full attention to her notes.
