Mission: Citadel Prime
Location: Main Engineering

Alpha Shift's engineering crew was gathered around the central engineering console in main engineering. Skanda was at the head of the long table, and when she saw that the skant engineering crew had all gathered, she began.

"G' mornin'," she said. "I'm Lieuten'nt JG Skanda Sheedy. I'm y' Chief Engineer an' I'll be runnin' enginee'in' fr'm now on. I dunno 'ow y' do thin's here, but I like t' have prot'col obse'ved. Tha' means all regs..." Sheedy let that one trail off, looking sharply at one officer who was wearing a pair of earrings, "... excep' tha' y' can call me Skanda unless the'e's an office' around. Then it's Lieutn'nt."

"Now, I'm new to this class o' ship, so I'll be relying on y'all t' 'elp me get t' know th' place. If any of ye have ideas or 'pinions, bring 'em to me. I'm willin' to lissen t' any though's, even those tha' 're con'rary t' mine."

"Tha's all righ' now. Ye're dismissed." Skanda waited at the central console as the others broke away and went about their duties. After a moment, she headed off towards a work station to begin her own work.

Master Chief Petty Officer Gambei Marotlin made his way over to Cress Maven, who was beginning her work at one of the warp core monitoring stations.

"Hey, Cress, whaddya think of Sheedy?" Marty asked, glancing over his shoulder to make sure that Skanda wasn't listening.

"I dunno, too early to say, I guess," she replied.

"Seems kinda stuck up," Marty said. Cress responded with a neutral grunt. "I still don't know why they let her be CEO rather than me."

"I'm sure it's nothing against you, Marty," Maven said, turning away from her console. "It's probably got something to do with the fact that she's an officer and you're not."

"But that's the thing," Marty replied. "A person's rank shouldn't matter. She hasn't had half the experience I have. Well, I guess I can hope she falls flat on her face in front of the cap." Maven's eyes suddenly went wide and she tapped Marty on the chest.

"She's coming," she whispered and turned back to her console. Martolin leaned down and looked over her shoulder, pretending to be helping her, as Skanda walked up behind them.

"'Scuse me," Skanda said brightly. The two turned to look at her. "I jus' though' I'd le' y' know tha', if y' need me, jus' call. I hea' veee'y well. Jus' say my name." Martolin suddenly lost the color in his face, while Cress' cheeks flushed with embarrassment, but Skanda smiled. "As y' were," she said, and turned to head back to her console. Martolin and Maven turned to look at each other.

"Do you think she heard everything?" Marty asked worriedly.

"I think that we should both get back to work," Cress said earnestly. Marty just nodded and headed off to carry out his assigned tasks.
