Mission: Citadel Prime
Location: Counselor's office
Timeline: Current

ON:

After having a lay down after meeting the XO, Jack decided to pay a visit to the ship's counselor, Ensign Lucy Carter.

The thing about Jack was, that he always wants to be prepared. This included the manifest which he was reading in his quarters on the Horus.

And as always, he likes to make his house calls official and neat, so he taps his COMM Badge. =^= Parsons to Carter =^=

"Carter here. Can I help you, Lieutenant?" Ensign Carter wanted to keep friendly but to the point until she had met the Lieutenant.

=^= Are you busy, as I need a physical doing =^=

"Physical, sir? I am the ship's counsellor and can offer counselling services. For a physical, you will have to ask a medical officer or, in their absence the ship's EMH. However, please feel free to visit me in my offices now, should you wish to become acquainted with the ship's medical facilities." Carter was not sure what the Lieutenant had meant.

Jack decided to rephrase his question. =^= May I book an appointment with you or can I come down to you now? =^=

Carter smiled to herself. "Yes of course, sir. Please feel free to come and see me now. My door is always open".

Jack smiled, =^= See you in a bit. Parsons out =^=

Jack quickly looked at his PADD then put it down and went out to the turbolift, "Deck 3". When it stopped, he walked up to the counselor's office. Do I look ok? Yerrr, he said to himself, then walked in.

Carter was on her feet as soon as the door opened. She smiled warmly at the Lieutenant. "Hello, Lieutenant Parsons. I am Ensign Lucy Carter, the ship's Counsellor. I am very pleased to meet you. " She motioned for Parsons to take a seat and asked "I trust you had a pleasant journey getting on board? I have to admit my journey was rather shaky, but I am here now. How can I help you today"?

She smiled again, pleased that she had her first counselling session underway. Her job. Her career. Her reason for being on board. She tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear and leaned forward slightly, listening intently to what the Lieutenant had to say.

"I'm here for you to check that I am mentally able to work, which I'm sure I am", Jack smiled as he replied to the counselor and sat down in the seat opposite her.

"Well, Lieutenant, is there any reason why you think you wouldn't be able to work?" asked Carter. She noticed him rub a finger into his ear as he considered his reply.

"No reason at all", he replied.

Carter sensed she was being toyed with and sat back in her chair a bit. The lieutenant had a winning smile that she suspected had got him out of trouble on many an occasion. "Perhaps," she continued "you might like to tell me a bit about your childhood. Was it a happy one?"

"My childhood was fine, we all got along nicely until my father slipped out the word Starfleet whilst doing astrology. I was big on the idea and because of how much I was into it, it all got bad then. I found out that Uncle Tom was enthusiatic about starfleet, so I left home at 12 and lived with him and he continued looking after me and teaching me a bit, so I was ready for Academy at 18".

"Well that's quite a commitment from one so young. Tell me - have you ever wanted anything other than to be with Starfleet?"

"Nope, Starfleet was always for me", he replied.

Carter made notes on her PADD and prepared to ask the usual questions. "I know have to ask you a series of questions to help me evaluate your mental state. Please answer as honestly as possible and bear in mund that whatever you say will remain confidential. Ready?""

"As ever", Jack replied, now getting ready for the dozen of questions.

"Question 1. Do you ever feel very down or deliriously happy for no real reason?"

"No", he answered.

"2. Have you ever had thoughts to harm another sentient being?"

"Not really unless defending myself when intruders/aliens are fighting", he said.

"3. Have you ever been convicted of a serious crime?"

"No"

"4. Have you ever taken illegal mood enhancing substances?"

"No"

"5. Have you ever lost your temper so badly that you lost control of your actions?

"No I haven't", Jack answered.

Carter could tell the Lieutenant was very reluctant to substantiate any of his answers. In truth she was glad the questions were over and the real psych test could begin. This was observational in nature and she would be observing all of the crew in the forthcoming weeks - without them knowing what she was doing.

She finished making notes on her PADD and looked up at him. "Thank you, sir. That concludes the formal evaluation. Now is there anything else you would like to talk to me about? Your feelings about this mission, perhaps?"

"Well, since you insist", Jack smiled, "As you may know from my service record, my last ship, the Horus did not really take notice of me. I have been on the Bridge and got used to the controls on the helm of the nova-class and liking it and cannot wait for the mission to start and me piloting again".

Carter smiled encouragingly. "I have always found," she began, "that starting somewhere new is like a new beginning. Generally, nobody knows anything about you and you are free to be yourself again without anyone else's prec0nceived ideas. It's very refreshing. I am sure that you will make your mark on the bridge on this mission".

"Well if you will excuse me, I have another appointment to attend to. I dare say we shall cross paths again soon. Thank you for dropping by, sir".

Jack smiled, "You welcome....see you around", he said before leaving the counselor's office and heading off to sickbay.
