T'mpest walked into sickbay and stopped at the reception desk. "Hi. I would like to schedule a routine exam," she asked the nurse on duty.
The Nurse looked away at Doctor Fox, who smiled back and held out his hand. "I'm Doctor Fox." he said politely, "Just here for a physical?" he asked.
T'mpest shook his hand. "T'mpest Michaels. Yes, I'm here for a physical, if you have the time."
"Always." Fox replied, gesturing to a bio bed and grabbing a tricorder from a nearby table. "Just coming aboard, or been here a while?" he asked, flipping the scanner node out of its housing and twirling it in his fingers before pointing it at his patient and scanning away.
"I'm just arriving. I transferred from the Endeavor," T'mpest replied, sitting on the biobed.
"Welcome aboard, then." Fox replied, carefully watching the tricorder scan. "Now, anything medically wrong I need know about? Aches, pains, concerns, past history?" he asked.
"Thank you," T'mpest replied. "It will be... interesting." A new ship with a new crew was always... interesting. "As for medical problems, I don't think I have any. I am in good health."
"Working out, keeping fit?" Fox continued, not noticing anything in particular on the scans. "I'm sure the life on an In-." he paused as commotion sounded from the door behind him.
A Denobulan and a Human Starfleet Officer were carrying a severely injured and babbling Tiburonian into the sick bay. Fox immediately headed towards them, ignoring T'mpest.
"What the hell are y'all doing carrying him!" Fox called out, waving the nurses to take over. "You should have called for emergency transport. What happened?" he asked.
"I don't know." the Denobulan replied, "We saw him stumble out of the Jeffries Tubes on the way to dinner and when our commbadges wouldn't work, we carried him here."
"Didn't work?" Fox asked, flipping open the tricorder the nurse gave him, having left his with T'mpest. The device flipped open, but nothing happened. He looked at it quizzically and tapped his commbadge. Nothing.
"What the hell." he exclaimed as the patient began frantically babbling in some unknown language.
"Damnit." he said, turning to the Denobulan, "You. Find me someone on this ship that speaks whatever language Tiburonian's speak!" he ordered.
T'mpest understood the man as he came in as she's spent several years living on Tiburon. She walked over to the doctor. "You don't need to look far. I understand him. He says there was some sort of magnagenic discharge coming from a python tube relay. It is quite possible that there is still some sort of magnagenic charge that is interfering with the tricorder."
Fox nodded, and turned to one of the Officers that brought him "Engineering?" he asked, as the man nodded. "Good. Figure out some way to get this charge off him so that I can treat him!" he ordered, ignoring the man as he quickly shuffled off and turning back to T'mpest. "Ask him to relax, and get on the bio bed. I'm going to try and get the computer to sort past the interference but I'll need to do it from the other side of the bay, he's interfering with everything here." he said.
T'mpest nodded. She walked over to the man and began to speak to him softly. It took a minute, but she got him to move, slowly, over to the biobed. He climbed onto the bed but before he laid down he grabbed her hand and began to babble about getting in trouble for the accident. T'mpest tried to sooth him, not looking at anyone else in the room in case it made the man more anxious. "What's your name?" she asked him.
"Sharik," the man said. "Sharik Metalli. Blake's going to kill me. The relay blew and he's going to kill me."
"He's not going to kill you. Accidents happen. He'll understand," she said soothingly.
Sharik squeezed her hand tighter, shaking his head. "I wasn't supposed to touch the python relay. It was an accident."
"Standyby." Fox called from the back of the room, "I'm going to invert the magnetic field through a lighting relay burst. Three. Two. One." he said, touching the panel at the last as a feedback hummed through the lighting relay, shorting out one of the closer lighting panels. The rest of the Sick Bay hummed back to life, including the bio bed and its ancillary equipment.
"Allright, ladies, let's get to our patient." Fox said, striding confidently across the room to the bio bed. "Can you understand me." Fox asked, hoping the UT was back online.
"Of course," Sharik replied. "Why wouldn't I?"
T'mpest said nothing, although her smile was a bit broader than normal. She stood back and let the doctor go to work.
