A Routine Visit

T'mpest walked into the Counseling Office and up to the front desk.
"Greetings. I just arrived on the ship and would like to schedule a routine evaluation," she said to the person on duty.
Carter had looked up at the sound of the door and was greeted with an unfamiliar face.
She rose from her chair and said "pleased to meet you, Lieutenant Commander. I am Lieutenant JG Carter, the ship's counsellor."
Carter smiled at the officer and continued "you are fortunate that I have a spare slot in my diary. Usually, you need to book a few days in advance for an evaluation. However, if you are happy to proceed then please take a seat."
She indicated a comfortable chair to the side of her office.
"Thank you," T'mpest said, smiling. She took a seat and waited for the Lieutenant JG to continue.
"All right, let's begin." Carter picked up her padd and scrolled through a few screens. "I hope you appreciate that some of these questions are a little intrusive - in fact you might not feel happy answering them but please be assured that anything that is said in this room stays confidential." She tapped at her padd then looked up.
"Have you ever felt a loss of control in your life that has resulted in violent action?"
"No," T'mpest said with a soft chuckle. "I am half Vulcan. I have never lost control. It would be illogical." The last was said with a definite twinkle in her eye.
Carter noted the response on her padd and continued: "Have you ever physically harmed anyone else?" She maintained a serious expression to indicate the nature of the task.
"Yes," T'mpest said, giving her a direct look. "I was helping Intel with an undercover investigation. A corrupt Ferengi was extortion information on a lost civilization I discovered and selling it to a mining company." She shrugged. "He attacked, I defended."
Carter read the rest of the questions out and recorded the responses. Interview over, her mood lightened as she asked "now, Lieutenant, have you found any time yet to relax on board?"
"Not yet. I haven't been on board very long. I'm still trying to get settled," T'mpest replied.
"Well, I recommend that you spend at least some of the time getting to know the rest of the crew" said Carter "after all, you won't have much time when the mission starts. She smiled warmly.
"I agree. It's much easier to work with someone you've already met," she replied, returning the smile. "Is there anything else you need of me, Counselor?"
"No, I think that's it for now. It's good to have met you." Carter smiled again and tapped her PADD.
"Likewise, Lieutenant," T'mpest said. She stood and bowed. "Thank you for your time. It has been a pleasure."
