Location: Diplomatic Officer

Captain Kerr walked through the corridors heading for the Diplomatic department with a vigour he had not felt since being joined. The cobwebs that sometimes clouded his mind seemed to waft away with the breeze of purpose. And he relished it.
Stepping up to the office, the doors automatically opened before him and he stepped in. An ensign turned to face the intruder and dropped his face on seeing the captain, silently nodding his respect.
“At ease, Ensign, Kerr said, tilting his head, “this isn’t an inspection.
Yvette had just returned from the mess hall, having taken the time to calm herself down after her meeting with Lieutenant O'Connell. It wasn't like her to get so dough eyed around someone, but for some reason Drew brought it out of her. His hansom visage, his soulful eyes, the whole package. But he seemed so incapable of accepting the fact that she was attracted. Also, she may not have helped the matter with her inability to act like a sane person around him.
She rounded the corner and entered the small diplomatic area, feeling at least back to her normal self now after some lunch.
She entered, not seeing the form of another one of the ships more attractive male crew members and she walked straight into him. With a light thud she hit the floor.
"Captain", she said with some surprise. "I'm sorry I didn't see you there!"
“No problem, Lieutenant, Kerr replied leaning down to help her up from the floor, dusting off his shoulder ceremoniously rather than practically. “I’m sorry to have startled you. I just came down to see how your preparations were going en route.
"Just fine sir", she lied. She needed to work with Drew more closely, but things weren't going to improve on that score. Still, she wouldn't let the Captain down.
"We have gone over all the basic anthropological aspects as well as cultural and social deviations not to mention the basic biological makeup of the species. But other than that we really don't know much, other than the fact that both races are pre-warp".
She found herself staring at the Captain, wishing that more men were like him. Chivalrous, kind, friendly, warm and willing to talk instead of insult. If only she could attract a man like him she wouldn't have any problems.
“Good, the Trill replied, not so oblivious to woman’s subconscious advances as he betrayed. “I don’t suppose that we’ll require a lot of the information collected for the time-being. The site that Lieutenants Warner and Martin have selected is fairly distant from the inhabited planets. I just didn’t want us going in blind.
He looked at LaFaal as she stared back at him and softened his face. “Is there… anything the matter, Lieutenant? You look a little shaken and distracted?
"Yes sir", she said in a matter of fact manner, only just noticing how pool like his eyes seemed. Almost like she could have swam in them. "Its nothing I can't handle, it just needs my usual delicate touch". A gentle smile played across her lips but in her mind she was plotting how to get back at Drew. She had been upset by him, and more than she cared to admit.
“Okay, Lieutenant. If you say so. Kerr smiled back. “I should leave you to it, if there’s nothing you require.
She was more than a little tempted to ask for company, but felt it would be inappropriate for a junior Lieutenant asking the Captain to an informal dinner. Plus, she still very much had Drew on her mind.
"Nothing that you could help me with sir". Once again she tried to hide her downcast tone, but not fully succeeding.
“Lieutenant, Kerr quickly replied, blowing air through his cheeks slowly, “I hate to get involved in the personal lives of the crew, but you don’t seem… yourself. Have you spoken with the counsellor?
"No sir. But it’s nothing that anyone can help me with. Not unless you know how to hurt Intel Officers without leaving any trace of who caused it".
She smiled, trying to crack a joke that she was trying desperately not to mean.
Kerr squinted his eyes and then held up his hands. “Don’t make me order you to go and see the counsellor, Lieutenant. He smiled to betray his jovial nature, but his tone adopted a severe note that was intended to disclose his earnestness. “Please, Lieutenant.
She shot the Captain a glare, the one she usually reserved for her brother, but since he was treating her like a concerned brother she felt it was appropriate.
"Yes, Dad", she joined in his jovial smiling, not wanting to break the light hearted mood that was falling about them.
“Good, he replied. “Then I’ll leave it with you to organise, Yvette.
She smiled at the Captain once last time before returning to her work as the Commanding Officer who was falling into the big brother role very easily, left her office. Now came the time to get back to work and figure this star system out.
