Mission:
Shoreleave - Welcoming Old Friends and New
Location: Personal Quarters of Shalie Montgomery
Timeline: After "Respect of Others"
Shalie stepped into the near scalding water of the shower. She stood for a moment just letting the water wash over her emerald skin. Her mind kept running over the last few days. Her fingers lightly grazed the skin of her throat as the water washed her day away. Any remnant of the encounter with her father was hidden; all the wounds that remained were internal. Where only she could see and right now her eyes were closed to them.
[Flashback]
Shalie knew it was coming. She stood with her eyes on the shoes of the man that stood in front of her. Shannon always referred to him as her father but, Shalie would never call him that. He would never let her. He was sir or Mr. Montgomery. He hated her and she knew it.
Shalie didn’t fight it as the back of his hand connected with her cheek. She had gotten caught playing with Ben Rogers even though she knew she wasn’t allowed it. She wasn’t allowed to spend time with any other the other kids. If only her parent’s knew about the craw space the two had turned into a hideout. Where Shalie would go when she did something wrong or the two just wanted to play card. His parents had forbidden it as well, but it was hard to explain to a 9 year old that a 7 year old was the enemy.
She knew better then to cry. Crying made him hit harder. She took her punishment as he pushed her to the ground and proceeded to use his size eleven boot to kick her in the ribs. She closed her eyes, pretending she was somewhere else….someone else.
The tears didn’t fall until she slowly shuffled towards the infirmary. The nurse was always nice to her, well nicer then anyone else. She would get an ice pack for her face and she would check for broken ribs. She knew what that felt like and today it wasn’t the case.
[End Flashback]
Shalie carefully stepped out of the shower. Making sure her eyes avoided the mirror. Moving swiftly into her bedroom wrapped in a towel. She sat perched on the edge of her bed. Her eyes fell on a folded gray sweatshirt she had mistakenly packed.
[Flashback]
Shalie could feel the bone in her knuckle break as it connected with the jaw of Jame Montgomery. He was mad at her again for another problem that wasn’t her fault. She had just been the messenger to deliver the message. She had learned to fight since Ben had been sparing with her for a better part of two years before he left.
The punch from an 18 year old girl wasn’t enough to stun the furious man who felt as though he was protecting his ship. Grabbing a fist full of hair he slammed her into the nearest wall. Her gripped her by her neck and whispered into her ear. The lack of oxygen and adrenaline racing though her system made it impossible for her to hear what he was saying.
[Flashback]
Shalie stood as if she were debating an internal struggle. Slowly her feet began to move her towards it. For the first time since she had taken it from him she slipped it on. The soft fabric felt warm against her skin. It was then the first tear fell. The only sign of the scars contained within the soul of the Orion Betazoid. Scars that told the story of a girl who had never felt safe. Who had never felt love. One who never belonged.
