Mission: Shoreleave - Welcoming Old Friends and New
Location: Guest Quarters, SS Utopia
Timeline: Current

Shalie woke up to the familiar sound of children running up and down the hall way. She had spent most of the previous night catching up with Ben. There was so much going on in his life. The woman of his dreams was the engineer of the Horacio and he couldn’t help himself from talking about her. The whole situation made Shalie smile. She was genuinely happy for both of them. Ben was the first and pretty much the only human she trusted.

Shalie pushed up on her one good arm and moved into a sitting position. With a yawn she moved into a standing position and began getting dressed. She had promised Shannon that she would take a look at the transporter and get it running before she returned to the Archimedes. She still had a few days before she was to return to the Archimedes, and getting to tinker sounded like a great way to spend the time.

She stopped by the mess, giving her mom a kiss on the head before grabbing a banana and heading down to the transporter room. She was glad to spend some time with Shannon. She had always loved her like a mother even if she could never use the word “Mom.

Shalie kept her eyes on the floor as she moved though the belly of the ship. It wasn’t a surprise that the crew avoided her. Growing up they had always been weary of her and since, like most cargo ships, the crew was generational. Even the younger members glared at her or treated her like she was invisible. At the age of 33 it was easier to handle then when she had been a child. She spent every year of her life on this ship until she left for the Academy, but she had always been an outsider.

Shalie entered the transporter room and immediately set to work on the transporter console. She quickly determined that the problem was in the transverse relay conduit which needed to be recalibrated on a regular basis. Working with only one and a half arms it took her slightly longer then normal, but she finished and replaced the panel. With a quick test and a self approving smile she turned to leave the transporter room.

As she moved though ship she decided to head down to engineering to offer her assistance. As she entered the engineering section it was manned only by Jame Montgomery. His back was to her as she debated on just leaving but ultimately decided to let bygones be bygones. “Sir, She started hesitantly. “I just wanted to check if there was anything you would like me to do?

Jame’s Montgomery stopped what he was doing and turned to face his daughter, or at least the 33 year old Orion Hybrid that he had raised since she was a baby. She may have been a Star Fleet officer now, but all he saw was the green skin. “You think I can’t fix my own ship….are you some how better then me now…Rat? his tone was even, but Shalie new what the name meant. He had called her that often when he had viewed that she had screwed up.

“Sir, I didn’t mean to imply….merely want to help out my family Shalie dared not move. If she was lucky she would be able to avoid any confrontation with her father.

“Don’t speak like you have a family here….you have only been able to seduce your poor mother into loving you/ His voice dripped with disdain. “I have allowed you to come on board to please Shannon…I would do anything to make her happy….even if that means sharing air with the likes of you but that doesn’t mean I have to spend time with you. As he spoke her moved closer to her. All the anger he held towards the Orion race he took out on her, always had. Shalie took in a deep breath as Jame grabbed her wrist. She bent her knees in reaction as he applied pressure to her arm and shoulder. It was a confrontation like this that first dislocated Shalie’s shoulder when she was seven.

“You’re…hurting…me… Shalie pleaded as a single tear rolled down her cheek. For whatever reason this set Jame Montgomery off. She felt his anger change to rage long before he moved. He used her wrist to quickly twist Shalie shoving her against the near by wall. Pain radiated down her shoulder as she used her body to shield it from impact. Not only was her size compared to him a disadvantage, but she only had one arm to attempt to fend him off.

Using her knee she pushed back against him. Her swift movement caught him off guard and he staggered backwards. Her pulse quickened as his rage grew. He lunged, but with a slight side step she missed the majority of his weight still sending her into the ground. He scrambled to over power her. Shalie felt the blood flowing from her lip before the sensation of his fist making contact with her jaw radiated though her body. The shock of the second punch was down played by that of the first.

As his fingers gripped her throat Shalie knew she would have to fight back or risk so much more. She wrapped her legs around his torso as his fingers tightened, leaving bruises behind as she managed to throw him off of her and to the ground. The familiar taste of blood in her mouth brought her back to her eighteenth birthday, the last confrontation she had had with Jame Montgomery before she left for the academy not to return until now.

She quickly moved to a standing position in time to fend off another attack. This time she used his momentum against him she grabbed his arm and twisted it up behind him. For every attack he threw at her she countered, trying to avoid hurting him. “I don’t want to hurt you….please…stop She knew her pleas feel on deaf ears but she had to try and reason with him.

Jame threw everything he had in taking her to the ground. He used her injured arm against her wrestling her to the ground and once again punching her this time landing full force on her left eye and cheek. Hopelessness washed over her as she felt his fingers once again wrap around her neck. Her fighting slowed as she relented to what was happening to her.

Shalie didn’t hear anyone enter merely saw a foot make contact with Jame’s head. As soon as she was free from his weight she struggled to get up. She heard her mother’s voice, but didn’t comprehend what was going on. “What the hell are you doing….get off my daughter!! Shalie felt her mothers arms wrap around her and move her towards the hall way locking the door behind her. “Shalie you need to get out of here before he gets out of there. She guided her child to her guest quarters and quickly placed Shalie’s communicator in her hand.

Shalie looked at Shannon. “Mom…I am sorry…I never intended this to happen. She hugged her mother. “I love you mom. And with that she contacted her ship, requesting a transport to sickbay. Leaving her mother to comprehend what he daughter had just told her.
