Mission: Behind the Mask of Familiarity
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: Current

Shalie stood in the turbolift as it moved her though the ship to the sick bay. She needed to get the final sign off for her shoulder to return to full duty. Once the lift stopped and the doors opened she exited and moved towards the sick bay doors. As the doors opened she walked in and looked around. This sick bay was set up differently then any she had ever seen. Everything about this ship fascinated her.

"Excuse me I am here to see the CMO..." Shalie called out to the teal collared officers .

Mabren had his back to the door, monitoring Altir Kerr's vitals while reviewing the medical files of some of the new arrivals. Looking over, he watched the rising and falling of the sleeping Trill's chest. Hearing the doors swish open and the request, Mabren set the PADD down on the console, 'Sickbay is getting busy.' Turning, he walked over to the new arrival.

"I'm the CMO," he greeted with a smile, "Doctor Mabren, how can I help you?"

Shalie took a few steps closer to the officer that responded. she didn't want to get to close. "I don't mean to bother you but...I am Ltjg Shalie Montgomery the new Chief of Operations and I need you to sign off on my shoulder so I may return to full duty." She stated plainly.

"Not a bother at all," Mabren said, gesturing at one of the empty biobeds, "If you'll have a seat, we'll have a look and see if it's all better."

Shalie moved over to the nearest empty bio bed. She easily took a seat and removed her service jacket. Other then a slight pain at the farthest point of her motion it felt better then it had in years.

"Still hurts a bit, does it?" Mabren asked at the slight wince on the Lieutenant's face, "Hmmm...." he hummed to himself, scanning over the shoulder, "Mild inflammation. I'll give you an anti-inflammatory and that should help with the pain. Did the previous Doctor give you any stretching exercises to help with your healing?"

"A few but with all the commotion in regards to my relocation and transfer and the court martial...I didn't get much physical therapy in." Shalie answered. If it was one thing she had learned in her time with Starfleet was to be as specific as possible especially with the medical staff. "Just so you know...before the incident and the surgery I had dislocated this shoulder about 15 times in total."

As Mabren returned with a hypo filled with the drug, he stopped short, a look of shock across his face. "Fifteen times?" he asked, looking down at the floor. 'What does this woman do in her free time?' he thought to himself before continuing. "Fifteen times, you said..." he repeated. "Interesting," Mabren finally said, placing the hypo on the Orion's neck and press the activator. "Well, as your new CMO, take it easy. Also, take at least 30 minutes a day to do exercises for that shoulder. Fifteen minutes in the morning and evening. Or before or after your shift, I'm not sure when your working." Smiling, at the fact that one individual could do that, he asked, "Any other problems?"

"Does a thorn in my side count?" Shalie joked but before any response could be made she answered seriously. "Not that I can think of...I have a few fresh scars on my back that the Doctors on Earth couldn't get rid of but they don't bother me too much just a little tight now and then ... and a few residual nightmares..." She smiled. "Wow saying all of that out loud kind of makes me sound like I do have problems..."

"Everything counts here," Mabren said, "And with your scars, if you want; it's not too hard to get ride of them. Just takes an effort. And I would send you to the Counselor to have a chat, but unfortunately she's..." He paused, not wanting to blurt out that she's the primary suspect in the current investigation, "Indisposed for the time being." Remembering her service and medical records, he thought against that, "Then again. I'm sure you've had your feel with them. So," he finished up, "Your fit for duty. Just need to go easy with the shoulder."

Shalie smiled. "Yeah me and Counselors don't get along....well...anyways...the nightmares I can handle and I am not sure if I want to be rid of the scars...just not the tightness.." She paused as she thought of Delancy. She still felt she didn't deserve to be free of them. "Um...fair warning...I am a bit on the pig headed side and I have a sparring match tomorrow morning...so I will try not to end up back here afterwards."

Mabren frowned, he didn't like her doing this so soon. "Well, I'm going to be nice and let you do this. But you better do something easy with that shoulder problem."

She gave the Doc and excited smile. "Thank you...like I said I will try not to go to hard and I will be sure to stop if it starts to get uncomfortable." She was just glad to be returning to full duty. Light duty never satisfied the Orion hybrid.

"Don't try," Mabren said to the Orion as she was leaving, "Do."

"Yes, Sir" Shalie called over her shoulder as she exited the sick bay. She wanted to get out of there before the good doctor changed his mind. The last thing she wanted was to have to tell Drew she couldn't spar with him tomorrow because she was in pain. A smiled crossed her lips as she stepped into the turbolift. I think I am going to like it here...
