Meeting the Operations Officer

Posted on Mon Feb 9th, 2009 @ 4:07am by Master Warrant Officer Sam Jackson

545 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: Restricted Independent Operations
Location: Office of the Operations Officer, USS Archimedes
Timeline: Current

Lieutenant Commander Rowena Arkham strolled down the halls of the USS Archimedes, with no particular destination in particular. Her jaw had been causing her a good deal of pain since the operation, and she'd decided to busy herself around the ship to keep herself from thinking about it. As she made her way around the deck, Arkham smirked a little -- she'd arrived outside the Operations office, and realized, seeing the office occupied, that she had not yet met the Operations Officer.

Strolling into the Office, Arkham smirked as much as her face would allow. "Well, I don't believe we've met. Lieutenant Commander Arkham, Executive Officer. You're our new operations officer, correct?"

Sam stood and smiled back at the Commander, before replying "Chief Warrant Officer 2nd Class Sam Jackson, at your service Commander" he paused for a moment "Sorry for the clutter, I'm still bringing my effects over from the Starbase and I figured I'd have most of them beamed to me."

Arkham nodded. "Not a problem, Chief. I trust you're settling in nicely?"

"I've only ever been here for a few hours but so far yes sir"

Arkham nodded. She was beginning to like this new officer. Thankfully, he probably wouldn't need as much work as the others did. "Excellent. And how are we looking, with respect to Operations? Is thaere anything I should be aware of?"

"I haven't seen anything so far, but then I've only made my way through about a third of the crews performance reports and I haven't even gotten started on systems evaluations, but if anything pops up, I'll let you know"

"Good," Arkham said gruffly. "I run a tight ship, Warrant Officer -- I expect only the highest quality of work out of all of my senior staff, you included. I'm not the type of person who you want to disappoint. It never ends well for any party involved. Am I understood?"

"No offense intended Commander, but I've been in the fleet for 28 years, you don't need to worry about me."

"Good," Arkham said, running a hand across her aching jaw. This was not a good day for the old officer, and she was looking forward to being able to lie down this evening and relax. "I look forward to working with you, Warrant Officer. Now, is there anything you need of me, or shall I continue on my way and leave you to your work?"

"I think I'm okay right now sir, but if I discover anything that should be brought to your attention, I'll let you know."

"Excellent," Arkham said, nodding slightly. "Well, I'll be on my way, Mr. Jackson. Do keep me updated -- I hope to have a briefing for the senior staff in a couple of days. Let me know if anything comes up between now and then."

Leaving the office, Arkham smirked a little bit to herself, thinking over how nicely things were coming together -- after earning the respect of the Yajuta warrior, everything else had been a breeze; although, she realized, she'd still have to talk to the commander about what had transpired in his room, considering that she had encrypted the data.

Ah, well. For now, she was headed back to the sickbay -- her jaw was killing her.
