Mission:
Wolves in Sheep's Clothing
Location: Transporter Room One
Timeline: Current
- Deck 1, Bridge -
"Captain Lane," he said, the control panel before him beeping furiously as the dancing lights lit up his face, "I have the USS Chariot requesting permission to beam their guests aboard. The have just entered orbit."
Lane twisted his head to look at the Ensign, the darkened patterns on his neck stretching and contorting with his skin. He smiled, and nodded. "Permission granted," he said. "I'll meet them down in Transporter Room One, myself. Inform Doctor Mabren of our guests' arrival and have him meet me there."
Rising, Lane straightened his jacket, executing the familiar Picard manoeuvre, and strode confidently to the turbolift. "Ensign, he beamed, "you have the bridge."
Lane entered the transporter room to find that he had beaten both his guests and the Doctor to it.
- Deck 6, Main Science Lab -
Mabren had been in the lab for too long. The screen he was staring at had begun to blur, the words that were displayed were unintelligible. Squeezing his eyes shut, Mabren grabbed the bridge of his nose just below his subtle ridges before he opened his eyes again and noticed that now, there were two screens. Sighing he stepped away from the console just as the comm came alive.
=^= Bridge to Doctor Mabren,=^= the disembodied voice called out.
Tapping his commbadge, Mabren simply said; "Go ahead."
=^=Commander Lane wished for you to be informed that the USS Chariot has arrived and that his guests will be beaming aboard shortly," there was a brief pause as the Ensign took a breath, =^=And he has asked that you meet him in transporter room one.=^=
"Understood. Thank you," Mabren said shortly and tapped his commbadge before he heard anything back from the bridge. Turning on his heels, Mabren walked out of the lab and down the corridor. After the short lift ride, Mabren arrived on deck two. Stepping out of the lift after the doors opened, Mabren walked briskly down the corridor to the large double doors that lead to the transporter room. As they swished open, the doctor saw the Captain standing in the middle of the room.
"Captain," he said in greeting, before coming to a stop beside Lane and facing the transporter pad.
"Doctor, how are you?" he asked, turning to face him. "Anything new in the medical bay?"
"No," Mabren answered, glancing at the Captain. "Nothing major, just the common things. Minor burns, sprains, pulled muscles and such."
"Well, I'm glad of that," Lane replied. "Wouldn't do to have anything clog it up."
Mabren was confused about that statement. No matter what way he worked it, he couldn't figure out what he meant. "Clog it up? Clog what up?" Mabren asked.
"Your sickbay, Doctor… Clog it up with patients, I mean," he replied with a chuckle. "I'm sorry, I guess I am just a little… apprehensive about Altir coming aboard. It's been awhile since I have seen him. And it's also a shame since he's here to pass on his life."
"Got it, so went right over my head," Mabren said, looking closely at the Captain's face. He wanted to say something, but he couldn't think of anything and the few things that were running through his head didn't sound very reassuring. By the time he settled onto something to say, the transporter chief said, "The Chariot is requesting permission to beam aboard your guests, Commander."
Lane broke off the conversation and nodded. "Granted," he said.
The blue ionisation of the three figures began to materialise on the transporter platform. Indistinguishable at first, the beams of light began to flood outward into humanoid shapes, and it took a couple of seconds before Lane could tell which one was Kerr and which ones were his attending doctors. As his weathered face fully materialised before him, a small man in height, frail and beaten with age, a smile radiating loudly from his jaw, Lane smiled.
Maintaining his professional demeanour before his crew, the Trill extended his hand out as Kerr stepped awkwardly down from the platform. Not allowing for such protocol, the elderly Trill bypassed the hand and embraced him deeply. "Son," he said, a small tear forming at the edge of his eyes, "it's good to see you. I never thought I'd see the day."
Lane quickly returned the embrace, and gently hugged his friend back. "Altir," he began, pulling away slightly to look upon his elder, "welcome home."
Swinging around keeping one hand supportively on the base of Kerr's spine, Lane introduced his crew. "…and this young man is our resident physician. Doctor Mabren."
Forcing a smile onto his face, Mabren nodded to the elder Trill and said, "It's a pleasure to meet you."
"And, Doctor Mabren, please meet Doctor Eleri Elde, a doctor from the Trill Symbiosis Commission."
"Doctor," Mabren greeted, "I hope that our preparations will meet your standards."
The visiting Trills both smiled at the Doctor and Kerr was the first to step forward. "Doctor, I have heard so much about you. It's good to meet you."
Mabren couldn't help but smile back at the older man, his smile seemed to be infectious. Finally he said, "Nothing but good, I hope."
"Naturally," he said, beaming. "And I wouldn't expect anything but…"
Doctor Elde then stepped forward, her white smock billowing around her frame as she did so. "Doctor, I appreciate everything that you have done for us here. I know that she's a small vessel, with a small sickbay, but, I suppose we have the fact that your Captain is a Trill himself to thank for our small… occupation of the Archimedes." She attempted to smile at her own humour.
Mabren turned and looked at the Trill doctor, "Oh, I'm sure that we'll be able to withstand your occupation." Not able to help it, a smile crept to his face, "For the time being."
"Good, I am glad," she said, leaning in slightly. "I hope to get down to sickbay as soon as I can to oversee everything, if that's all right by you." She smiled widely at the doctor and before he could reply, she continued with, "I'm sure we'll get along famously, Mr. Mabren."
"Of course, I can show you to sickbay now, if everything is done here," Mabren said, returning the smile of the Trill.
Lane looked over and simply nodded. "You're dismissed, Doctor. Take care of Doctor Elde," turning to face her, he winked, "and I'll catch up with you later, Eleri."
The Trill doctor then affectionately linked arms with Mabren and left.
Kerr, smiling still, nodded to the young man before him. "Come," he said, winking, "we have much to discuss."
