"Establishing a coded relay to the Ranger." Ra replied in his deep voice before adding. "Please allow for a few moments to ensure the connection is secure."

Orin stood in his office, quietly, before walking over to John and Jack. He stopped in front of them, his arms crossed over his chest, before glancing over to them. "What do we have in our armory?"
John looked over to Jack, before looking back to Orin and replying softly. "The usual. Hand held weapons. Blades. Explosives. A few toys left over from various missions we pulled. Are you thinking over a shock and awe, Boss?"
"We shouldn't be struggling to come up with ideas, now. We had a plan, Boss. If we could just-" Jack said before being cut off.
"Mister Addy? As much as I understand your confidence and admiration for this team, we are still at the service of the Ranger crew and its command staff. As much as I understand your frustration, we are under the gun and can't afford to be on different pages during a situation like this. So, I am only going to say this once and then we will move on." Orin said firmly before taking a deep breath and adding. "If you ever mouth off like that again to a superior officer, I will ensure you will be cleaning the outside of the Ranger's hull in an EVA suit. Got it."
"Boss? You know that's not fair. You know I get EVA sick." Jack replied softly.
John cleared his throat, trying to draw attention away from the current situation. "Boss, I get it. We're not running solo, but we can't stop working the way we've always worked. This is how we operate. We've been in tougher spots and come out pretty well. The XO, Cattmor, may not understand it or may not even care, but that doesn't stop us from reacting the way we've been trained to react. We're marines, born and breed. Give us a weapon and a target and we'll see it through to the end. Our's or theirs. We just need that chance."
"I understand, John. Believe me, I do, but we can't keep her out of the loop. It's still her command and its her responsibility should anything happen. Cattmor has her own rules to follow. Her own training to hold to. Let's focus on ways to get us out of this situation should we need it. I don't like this ship. It's approach to us was all wrong. There is no reason for it to come toward us with its weapons and shields up. It should know the Ranger isn't going to respond by attacking, why would it expect a fight when T'mpest wouldn't start one. She doesn't have the head of a soldier. She thinks more like a scientists. An explorer. She would only respond to defend, not to attack. Their records on the Ranger should show that." Orin said softly, placing his hands behind his back.
Jack raised a brow slightly before adding. "Maybe that's what they want? Lure us in before shoving us all in a brig?"
"Standard Starfleet procedure is to approach a ship with weapons down and shields up. Traditional yellow alert. Only jump to red when the situation shifts to hostile. Ranger wouldn't put up a fight. Any scan they run on us would show our signature was off and wouldn't match this time period." John added.
"All the more reason to prepare counter-measures." Orin said firmly. "So, what do we have at our disposal?"
"Like I said, standard haul of weapons and trinkets. Not enough to spread out throughout the whole Ranger." John replied with a shrug.
"So let's disable them." Jack replied softly before looking over to John, than to Orin. "We still have those big charges we used for that Cube?"
"One or two, I think." John answered before raising a brow. Unsure of where this was going. "Why?"
"Ship like that must have a back-up system if main power gets cut, right?" Jack continued, crossing his arms over his chest.
John nodded in agreement. "Standard procedure for when main power is cut is to switch to a secondary unit which immediately brings Life support systems back online. There is usually enough power for shields, but not enough to run them at 100 percent. Maybe not even 50. Weapons aren't usually a priority."
Orin's brow slightly raised before commenting. "What are you getting at, Addy?"
"What if we rig one, or both, of those charges to release on EMP? We beam it on board the ship, maybe main engineering, and set it off. Pulse will only effect electrical systems and it will bring until back-up kicks in. From there, its only on minimal shields and life support. It should by everyone enough time to get away and regroup."
"It's a good idea, but until we know more, we need to be prepared and not become the aggressors.' Orin said firmly before adding. "For the moment, both of you go work on that charge. Just in case." He walked over to his desk. "Before you go to work on it, please ask the XO to join me."
Jack and John looked at each other curiously again before nodding and walking away. Neither of them liked where this was going and had no idea what the Boss was thinking, but arguing would only make their situation much worse. For the moment they remained silent and stead fast. As the two of them left the office, they shared another look before Jack walked away to the armory to get to work while John remind behind and approached Cattmor.
"Commander? The Boss would like you to join him in his officer, Please." John said softly, his hands behind his back.
Cattmor turned to face the ex-marine, protocol mixed with confusion racked his mind, clearly seen by her own. She nodded slightly, and stepped around John to attend Orin's office, pressing the control to make her attendance known. After a second, the doors parted and she passed the threshold allowing the doors to close behind her. "You requested to see me?" she asked, trying her hardest not to allow her mind to jump forward in the conversation.
