Mission: A Civil Act

[OLD]

Orin, observing Rylie's motions and slight facial expressions, felt she was conflicted, but kept it to himself as he cleared his throat and began to speak. "I agree with the Captain. Best to go down with our most experienced officer than someone still earning his Archaeology badge." He said firmly, looking around the table before focusing his look to Keen. "No offense intended, but I have always been a strong believer in why have the best if you never plan on using it?" He paused for a moment, looking to T'mpest before turning to Rylie. "Since the Captain, is the most experienced officer, it would make sense to send her down. If safety is an issue, I am sure my team and I will be able to handle the job in keeping her out of harms way, unless you don't have faith in me and my team."

[NEW]

And there's three out of three, Rylie thought to herself while inwardly sighing, doubting that Orin was listening in to her telepathic conversation with T'mpest, or any way of burrowing through her own defenses to her thoughts. "I have no problems about having faith in you or your staff, Lieutenant. I'm just saying there could be cause for more caution than what we appear to be applying. I am very much aware that we all have everyone's safety in mind, especially the captain's."

"Captain," T'kaarch purred. He wanted to answer earlier, but he didn't want to go through the different interjections posed, " I'd prrreferrr to stay on the Rrrangerrr and keep an eye on the sun and the planet's atmospherrre. May I put Ensign Marrryweatherrr forrrwarrrd, she's grrraduated on a majorrr in Archaeology and would, I think, complement yourrr skills."

T'mpest nodded. "An excellent choice. I will ensure you receive the reports from the survey team so you will be able to look for any discrepancies between their report and current conditions."

She looked around the table. "Are there any other questions?" she asked the group.

"I have a couple." Cattmor said, More likely a few more, but for another time, she thought, before continuing, "How long until we arrive, and how long has Starfleet given us in order to complete the survey?"

"At current speed, three weeks," T'mpest said. "There is no timetable for how long we can stay. I would like to see what we can find and then turn it over for a permanent science team to come in -- if one is warranted." It would give them all time to study the available data and plan for their arrival, plus it would give the crew time for a bit of relaxation while they were en route. "There will be a final briefing shortly before arrival."

Adriana shook her head and glanced over at Blake to see if the boss had anything to ask. To her it sounded like a fairly relaxing trip and mission: lots of scans, lots of surveys, lots of number crunching and comparisons. And lots of conjecture. A mystery, but the answer might be more story than fact. It sounded like fun.

Likewise Blake had no question to bring forward that this point. Perhaps nearer the arrival time and final briefing something would crop up but right now he drew a blank.

T'mpest turned to Cattmor. "You said you had questions. Is there anything else you would like to bring up now?"

Not out loud, Rylie thought to herself while turning her eyes to T'mpest over the brim of her mug as she took a sip. "I believe you answered them, ma'am." she replied, somewhat softly.

T'mpest nodded. "I will make the data from the initial survey available to all of you," she said to everyone gathered. "Feel free to search for additional data on the planet and the system. As stated, there will be a briefing before arrival for additional questions and final assignments. I want the planet and system scanned before we beam down. For the interim, put your department on a light rotation so they have time to relax. I am not sure they will have such luxury once we arrive."

Keen was quite ready to be elsewhere; he could easily see himself going to his office and getting some work done, being left on the ship suited him as Kitten is close to birthing little one; he decided not to take any undue chances. He listened to the commanding Officer and staff taking in their concerns and tasks to be noted later.

"I'll prepare my team and inform them of whats going on." Orin replied as he looked to T'mpest before looking to Rylie. "With your permission, I would like to leave my assistant Lieutenant DeViro to help you with any security matters."

Morgana looked at him oddly, not expecting to be left behind. She had always been at Orin's side through every mission and was there for more than just back up. She didn't know what had changed, but Morgana wasn't sure if this was for better or worse. She took a moment to look at Rylie, nodding with a slight smile as she spoke in her British accent. "Whatever the Commander needs of me, I will assist. You will find I am quite capable."

T'mpest nodded her ascent. "Take the time necessary to ensure that you are ready for our arrival," she instructed everyone. "And take some time to relax. That is an order. I want all of you ready for whatever we encounter at our destination. Dismissed."
