Mission: A Civil Act

"Since we have no overall idea of the condition of the planet, let alone the structures that could be found on the planet's surface," Eden asked. "I think it would be prudent for either myself or a member of Engineering to accompany the away team. In case there is any structural damage or something that may damage the ship's systems in any way."
"That would be logical," T'mpest replied. "I will leave it to you to decide if you or one of your department joins the away team."

Stealing herself from her faraway look, Rylie took a small sip of her coffee and decided to bring something else to the table, especially in an attempt to allay her fears about the landing party, "Without knowing the full details of the system or the planet's conditions, structural or otherwise, I would suggest caution. There's no need, especially in the early stages, to risk exposure to possibly harmful or hazardous situations that are impossible to foresee at this point. I think a minimal away team would be prudent." she said, telepathically adding "Especially your own involvement, captain".
"I have no plans to go running off half-cocked," T'mpest assured her. "We will scan the planet again before we beam down. As I have experience with this situation, I am the most logical person to head the team." "Besides, I trust you to take charge of the Ranger while I am away."
"But seemingly not to lead another away team..." Cattmor shot back reflexively, before she'd realised she did it. She attempted to cover it with an apologetic look before taking another sip of her drink, but was unsure if T'mpest had even seen it, let alone took any notice of it.
T'mpest noticed. "It would be illogical to leave the person with the most experience with abandoned alien civilizations behind, would it not?" she responded telepathically. She was getting more adept at it, as long as she was in the same room as the other person. "If you are so determined to go along, Commander Keen is quite competent to take temporary command of the Ranger."
"I'm not determined to go along, ma'am; I'm determined to not let you go along." Cattmor injected, still speaking telepathically, while covering the gap and tone by taking a small bite of her cookie. She was well aware that what she was doing at this point was rude, perhaps even insubordinate--once the commanding officer had made their decision, even after any objections were made by the first officer, it was up to her as X-O to ensure that those orders were carried out, regardless of their personal beliefs.
"It would be prudent to take someone from security and operations as well," T'mpest said. "Lieutenant T'kaarch, I will give you the option of coming with the away team or remaining on the Ranger."
"If I might add Captain." Keen interjected." Archaeology and Science are not my strongest suits; I do however know how to command a ship as I have covered that position in the past. I believe medical or Science would be a better choice on the away team." He admitted soundly ; though he did keep his being worried about how close they are to the Little One's Birth does play on his decisions be it a good or bad Command decision.
Adriana shot him a little relieved look that she quickly tried to hide by taking another bite of her pastry. She rested a hand on her belly and took a deep breath; Morai wasn't going anywhere, he was staying on the ship with her and their Little One. She needed that reassurance.
Rylie stared into her now half empty mug, the myriad of thoughts from around the room merging into one jumbled mess as she attempted to distract herself with a thought of her own, Great, on one side I've got the captain not having faith in me commanding the away team, and the other, the second officer not wanting me to command the ship, she thought while keeping it firmly locked up and closed off ensuring it didn't leak out to anyone.
Despite the gathering of officers the awkward silence from the two leader heads spoke volumes Dylan noted. It was apparent both First Officer and Captain were debating what was the next viable step and crucially who would lead the away team. Regulations stated quite clearly T'mpest should remain behind, but given her background knowledge before donning the extra pips was right up her street. Rylie would have to fight hard to keep her Captain aboard the ship.
He glanced across of the rounded Adriana knowing it wouldn't be long until that planet shaped bump ejected its precious contents . There was no way she'd be allowed to leave the confines of the ship which limited his choice of candidates should he need to send someone planet-side. Additionally with the keen interests already being showing interest in mapping the system Blake knew the manpower of his department would be in demand.
Orin, observing Rylie's motions and slight facial expressions, felt she was conflicted, but kept it to himself as he cleared his throat and began to speak. "I agree with the Captain. Best to go down with our most experienced officer than someone still earning his Archaeology badge." He said firmly, looking around the table before focusing his look to Keen. "No offense intended, but I have always been a strong believer in why have the best if you never plan on using it?" He paused for a moment, looking to T'mpest before turning to Rylie. "Since the Captain, is the most experienced officer, it would make sense to send her down. If safety is an issue, I am sure my team and I will be able to handle the job in keeping her out of harms way, unless you don't have faith in me and my team."
