Mission:
What Dreams May Come
Location: CO's Quarters
ON
T'mpest sat at the desk in her quarters, doing nothing at all. It had been a while since she'd been able to meditate or to feel at peace. The pressure from the thoughts of the crew and their nightmares had receded to a mere whisper and she was appreciating the quiet.
There was still one matter of business left and she could put the matter behind her and move on. She took a deep breath and let it out slowly and began.
"Computer, start new log."
The computer beeped in consent.
"Captain's Log Stardate 65891.9082.
It has been 24 hours, 32 minutes, since the Ranger left the gas cloud in the Maridious Sector. A good part of the crew is still suffering the after-effects of the mind-altering abilities of the entities that caused the destruction of three ships and nearly our own. I do not know what will happen to the cloud or its inhabitants, but Starfleet Command has sent a team of scientists and medical personnel to deal with the situation and either move the cloud away from humans or find a way to block the effects of the entities. However, with our limited success and the evidence we presented, they have an 87.4 percent change of a positive outcome. I sincerely hope they find a way to save the entities for future study and do not have to destroy them and the cloud they call home. There are so many things in the universe that we do not understand, it is not generally necessary to destroy that which we do not understand.
I am taking the ship to Nimbus III to give the crew five days of shore leave. It is my hope that the time away from their responsibilities will further aid them in their mental and emotional recovery.
End log. Save and archive.
She sat back and closed her eyes for several moments, wishing she could have done more, wishing she could have found a solution. But she knew that there were times when a solution required more than one small ship could do on its own.
"Computer, play Michaels Scottish balads."
The sound of bagpipes began to play. She got up and walked over to her bookshelf, taking down her agpipes from off the top of her bookshelf. She prepped them and began to play along.
