Mission:
What Dreams May Come
Location: Various
ON
T'mpest walked onto the bridge. "All stations, report."
Orin walked right behind T'mpest, making a straight walk to the Tactical/Security station. The Ensign that was there prior stepped away, giving Orin complete control of the console and its functions.
"It is imperative that we get out of the gas cloud and stop these creatures from doing to the planet what it has done to us."
"I don't think you'll get many complaints from us sir," Blake grumbled having missed out a peaceful night sleep due to hallucinations.
One side of T'mpest's mouth quirked up in a smile. "No, I think not. The one problem with that is we need to find a way to stop the entities and drive them from the ship." She paused for a moment before explaining. "I believe we are dealing with non-corporeal entities that feed off the negative energy created by our nightmares and paranoia."
"Science." Orin said firmly as he kept his eyes focused on his console, bringing up shield and weapon functions. "You need to begin a scan of the gas cloud and figure out what it, and these entities, are made out of. Do you think, given further study of the gas cloud, that we will be able to learn how to detect and harm these entities to drive them away?" He paused, looking over to the Captain. "With the Captain's permission, of course."
"Agreed." T'mpest nodded to T'kaarch. "See what you can find."
The turbolift ride to the bridge was sheer agony; the constant internal thought noise that everyone was projecting whether they knew it or not as the few decks went by were rattling through Rylie's brain like a rickety freight train at full power, making it almost impossible to concentrate. Only her stubborn attitude and the will to never give in, pushed her to carry on through to doing her job.
As she entered the bridge, Cattmor glanced around at those present, all dutifully working at their assigned stations, and carried on round the barrier to the central platform and took her own seat with a concentrating frown on her brow. She didn't want to talk, she doubted she'd hear her own voice anyway, and although she'd already picked up an overview she mentally projected to T'mpest What's the latest?
T'mpest gave her a quick, telepathic gestalt of information, letting her know about the recent events and the theory that they were dealing with non-corporeal entities rather than a virus of some sort.
That actually made sense; what Cattmor was reading from the crew along with her own experiences, was that all this was too ordered to be a random occurrence due to a virus or other contaminant. "Nasty little buggers." she said quietly to herself, not intending for anyone else to hear it--as she'd earlier suspected, she barely registered herself that she'd said it.
"Yes, we are." her own personal image of Lindell said, appearing right beside Commander Michaels, if looking the opposite way. "But you need us as much as we need you. You can't get rid of us; you can't fight us. And you certainly cannot stop us."
We can try. Cattmor stated internally.
"Try all you want," he replied as he took an observation seat beside her, "you will fail, just like what happened before, what always happens."
Rylie said nothing further, even internally; just closed her eyes for a moment and willed the image away. She was unsuccessful, but she was barely able to continue ignoring.
She tapped the comm button on her chair. "Bridge to Doctor Foster. We believe the source of the psychotic episodes is some sort of non-corporeal entity. I need you to find a way to block their influence. Look through historical records. Entities similar to this have been encountered in the past. Let me know what you find."
"Lieutenant T'kaarch and Lieutenant Blake, is there a way to drive these creatures off our ship?"
Please say yes... please say yes... Catttmor internalised, squeezing her eyes tight.
When T'mpest got no response she turned to find that both Blake and T'kaarch staring into space, a pained expression on their faces. Rather than scold them as she was fairly certain it was the entities interfering, she went over to the second science station and began to play Mozart. His music was said to help enhance mood and brain functions. It was definitely worth a try. She looked around the bridge and noti9ced only a very slight improvement.
"Sickbay, can you flood the ship with endorphins?"
Her mind flashed through the data she and Orin read about past encounters with similar species. She switched from Mozart to Spike Jones. As she heard a few chuckles on the bridge, she noticed a lessening in the pressure from the alien entities. Pleased, she began to play the music ship-wide. She added some PDQ Bach and Zellara Treebachs. Laughter may indeed be the best medication in this instance.
As the air filtration system began to flood the ship with chemicals meant to improve the mood of the crew and more varieties of humor were added to the "playlist," T'mpest began to feel less pressure from the voices. It was a very positive turn of events.
