Mission: What Dreams May Come

[CONTINUED]

[OLD]

Pyotr kept one eye on the Ranger so he wouldn't get out of sensor range as he headed in the direction of the Edmorn. "Can you pick them up?" he asked.

[NEW]

Turning her gaze from the console in front of her, Eden replied, "I'm trying to get a lock, but having just a bit of interference from the cloud." Turning to the half-Klingon science officer manning communications she asked, "Can you boost the comm signal, ensign? Just enough for me to get through the interference so I can get a lock on the away team's position?" Eden was worried about Lieutenant Foster and the others, when the Ranger had lost contact with the away team, she'd immediately handed over Engineering to Lt. Norvo so she could join the shuttle team and rescue them. She just hoped they weren't too late.

"On it, ma'am." Tavanna's fingers raced over the panel in front of her, working with the communications probe to boost the shuttle's reach. After a few seconds, she turned her gaze to the senior officer and said, "Try it now."

Juliet Rehema bit her lip nervously as she listened to chatter from the front of the shuttle. This being her first away mission she had the usual jitters and adrenaline rush, but something kept flickering out of the corner of her eye. Like something was there that she couldn't see. Not to mention she'd been experiencing the feeling of being watched almost constantly as of late. Shaking her head slightly, mussing up her short bob of red hair, she looked to the other medical officer and voiced, "How do you think the away team is holding up?"

Looking at the woman beside him, Valentine offered up a half-smile. "Well, I'm hoping alright. But it's always best to be prepared for any situation. At most, we should be able to stabilize any ailments until we're back on the Ranger." He didn't want to think the worse, but with what he'd learned so far, Valentine couldn't keep his mind from thinking the worse. But he didn't dare let that show on his face.

Pyotr didn't have far to go, and carefully navigated to where he was half way between the two ships. "Okay. Can you get a lock on the away team?"

"Can you thread a needle at a hundred paces?" muttered Ensign Jones as he made the adjustments on his console. "I'm still scanning, nothing yet."

"I think I can help with that, Ensign." Eden's fingers raced along the console in front of her, thankful that the other ensign had helped with cutting through the interference. After a minute or two she said, "How about now?"

"Checking," Jones announced. "Okay I've got them!" The Ensign smiled broadly, "Beginning transport."

Pyotr kept a careful watch on the Ranger so it wouldn't disappear. Even though he knew which way to go to get back, he really didn't want to get lost in this pea soup of a gas cloud.

Miral was still sitting on the ground when she was transported to the ship. She unfastened her helmet and pulled it off, gulping in fresh air. That was far too close for her liking.

Jensen found the sudden brightness of the shuttle a bit much, but acclimated quickly. It also helped that he could sense just how much of a relief it was for everyone, both away team members and those collected aboard the shuttle. He quickly pulled off his helmet, noting that the two medical ensigns, Rehema and Allemand, were already on top of preforming preliminary scans of the away team. He smiled to himself, before sinking to the ground, thankful that he was no longer surrounded by darkness and the presence of shadowy figures.

All too keen to rid himself of the suits confides Blake broke the seal quickly and pulled in a mighty breath of air. Sharing in his colleagues immense relief he too sunk gratefully onto the deck glad he was away from that place.

The familiar tingle of the beginning of the dematerialisation process of the transporter came as both a shock and relief to Cattmor, and as she felt the rest of the away team, as they were beamed away from the dark confines of the Edmorn, back to the shuttle. It wasn't quite where she wanted to be, but for now it was just fine and dandy to be away from the other ill-fated ship. She immediately disengaged the locks to her helmet, eager to get the thing off, as she approached the cockpit. "It's good to see you Pyotr, I trust our message was received and understood." she said flatly rather than with the inflection of a question.

"Good to see you, too, Commander!" Pyotr replied cheerfully. He had to admit, it was good when a plan came together.

"Get us back to Ranger as soon as possible." she ordered before returning to the aft compartment to exit from her gear completely.

"Yes, ma'am!" He locked onto the Ranger, flipped the ship and kicked in the impulse engines. "We'll be back before you can recite War and Peace," he joked.
