Mission: In The Dark
"Good, then. Then it's settled" Lane replied, and extended his hand out to congratulate him. "Congratulations, and with that, Commander Lane stood to leave.
Kemmer stood as well, their hands still tightly clasped as he leant in, “as long as this doesn’t mean I have to wear red. Lane looked at him quizzically. “Red’s not my colour. Lane smiled, their hands parted, and so did they. On his own way out from the mess hall, he started thinking back and thought about the time of one of his few friends wedding. The colour of the day was red, everything was red, the flowers were red, the cocktails were red, the bridesmaids dresses were red, well, people got the idea from there. Well, there was Wes Kemmer displaying his rather tight fitting red shirt, Sam said that if it wasn’t for his svelte body he would’ve looked like a member of the band or the bar staff, in fact he professed that Nathan’s aunt had asked him to get her a drink several times throughout the evening reception.
“Excuse me, he said as he almost bowled another crewmember over as he rounded the corner continuing his journey to his office. He hadn’t had a very good evening that night, and had to remind Sam on many occasions that ‘red was just not his colour’. Perhaps that, in part, is why he never aspired to command, the other was just his job. “What have we got? he said as the doors to the Intelligence offices swished open heralding his arrival on the scene.
“We’ve dug up some more reports for you sir, on the recent pirate activity or certain lack thereof, especially where we’re concerned and Miss Emry has finished compiling her report concerning theories of why the escort was sent and then summarily cancelled.
“Let’s have it. Kemmer said just as the Bolian handed him the PADD.
“I think you should take this to the captain.
Looking over the PADD, Wes couldn’t help but concur, but there was something about the report that was just off, missing. He retreated to his office, and just as he sat at his desk the lights faded and went black. Before he could call for the emergency lights, they just flickered back on leaving both officers a little confused. “Kemmer to Engineering, he said just after he tapped his com badge and the familiar open channel chirp sounded.
“Curtis here, came the reply.
“What’s going on Mister Curtis?
“The power failure has been ship wide, we’re looking into it; but all ship board systems appear to be back online.
“Thank you, Kemmer out. He stared at the Bolian in front of him for a few seconds before speaking again, “I know these engineer types Lieutenant, everything’s working now so what’s the point in worrying about it.
“I’ll get on it, sir.
“In the mean time, I have a rather unpleasant meeting to take care of. It was a couple really he thought as he exited his offices, and he couldn’t believe that he was going to visit his two least favourite places in the same day, but they were both required, one more than the other; he was almost out of medication for the overwhelming pain in his thigh that he was starting to get aggravated and edgy – a dangerous combination going from experience. “Computer, locate Lieutenant Mabren.
Monotonously as ever the computer responded, “Lieutenant Mabren is in sickbay.
“Where else would a doctor be? he asked himself as he headed in the general direction of sickbay.
