[CONTINUED]

[OLD]

The irrational part of his brain, the part that was reacting to the overload, was terrified. This had only happened a few times before. Once when he was thirteen, again when he was twenty-one, and the last time was during his posting on the Zenobia. And each time his latent telepathy had activated, his dormant telekinetic and pyrokinetic abilities had exploded forth.

[NEW]

Terrified that it would happen again, Jensen struggled to his hands and knees. Feeling everyone's emotions and hearing their thoughts was causing his head to pound fiercely and his body to burn with unbelievable pain. He needed to meditate. He needed another telepath. Someone to control his dormant abilities. Someone to help. He knew this would happen. He knew there would be hell to pay. This was why he kept such tight control over his emotions and his empathy.

As he struggled to his feet, he was suddenly hit with another wave of emotion. And with it came the thoughts, so harsh and loud in his mind. His head felt like it was going to explode. He had to do something to alleviate the pain.

And then it happened. Every available object in his quarters was suddenly ripped into the air. The glass coffee table shattered, pictures of his family and the few trinkets he owned flew about the room at blinding speeds, and the furniture went up in flames. He was terrified. Totally and completely.

His mind was full of voices and his head hurt from the onslaught of emotion. Everything was still spinning around like crazy and the fire suppressant system had activated the moment after his furniture caught fire. His head still hurt and he knew that if he didn't get control of himself soon, he would black out and then, well, everyone he was picking up on would be in serious trouble.

Reaching gingerly for his combadge, he tapped it and managed to gasp out, "Foster to Sickbay. Medical Emergency in my quarters."

Then he slumped to the floor, his vision beginning to go dark.

Heather Quinn had just finished with her last check-up when she heard Dr. Foster's voice over her combadge. Immediately she grabbed a medical kit and contacted the transporter officer on duty, asking for a site to site transfer.

What she saw when she got there was nothing short of astonishing.

All of Foster's belongings were strewn about the room and the fire suppressant system was going off. Quickly, she asked the computer to shut it off. Once that was finished she noticed that the half-Betazoid himself was sprawled on the floor, his eyes barely open.

As she rushed to him, she felt an odd tingling sensation in her mind. She couldn't quite place it, but duty took priority. She opened the medical kit, armed herself with a hypospray, and turned to Jensen.

"Lt. Foster, can you hear me? It's me Quinn!"

Nothing, except the tingling in her head got stronger and the hypospray flew out of her hand and into the wall behind her. Shocked for a second, all she could do was stare. Then she shook her head and gently tapped on Foster's face. His eyes rolled around for a second and then finally opened.

In their black depths she saw nothing but fear and pain.

"It's OK. I'm here. What happened?"

The tingling in her head suddenly intensified and her vision began to blur.

"No... Need..."

Blinking her eyes, she focused back on Foster. His eyes were beginning to unfocus.

"Need, what? Lieutenant stay with me. What do you need?"

His eyes focused on her's for a split second as he answered, "Help... Need... Telepath..."

His eyes became unfocused again and rolled back in his head.

"Jensen, stay with me!" She slapped him again, harder this time, and was rewarded when his eyes looked upon her again.

Fearing he might go unconscious any second, she tapped her combadge, calling for the only person she could think of at the moment.

"Lieutenant Quinn to the Captain. Emergency in Lieutenant Foster's quarters. He needs help. And not the kind I can give."

T'mpest was reading in her quarters, a print book on ancient Vulcan tales. It wasn't often she could enjoy a rare evening to read for pleasure. When she got the message she put a bookmark to preserve her place and tapped her combadge. "On my way.'

Not bothering to change out of her Vulcan tunic and pants, she hurried to Lieutenant Foster's quarters. When she got there she didn't bother to knock but simply walked in and quickly assessed the situation. "What happened?" she asked.

Turning towards the Captain, Quinn said, "I'm not sure. A few moments ago, Lt. Foster called to Sickbay, saying it was a medical emergency. I called for a site to site and this is what I found when I got here. He's beginning to go unconscious."

Quinn turned her gaze from the captain back to Foster, worry marring her brow. She wanted to move Jensen to sickbay, but feared whatever happened in his quarters could happen in sickbay.

She continued, "There is a slight tingling sensation in my mind. It's not so bad now, with him slightly conscious, but when he begins to go under... it intensifies. I tried to give him a hypospray to relax, in order to get him to sickbay, but it flew out of my hand. I'm not sure what to do. I'm not willing to move him to sickbay just yet, as I don't know what's going on with him. But I do think he needs the help of a telepath or at the very least someone with empathic skills. It was the only thing he said before slipping under again."

"My telepathic skills are very rudimentary," the Vulcan replied. "Do you have any indication as to why he needs that sort of help?"

"Not for certain, Ma'am. Just that he said the word 'telepath'," Quinn looked down at Jensen and who was still unresponsive. The tingling in the her head was slightly worse than before, but she was more worried about her colleague than the sensation in her head.

Quinn was about to go on, when she heard Foster moan and felt the tingling in her head subside.

"Lt. Foster, can you hear me?"
