Mission: What Dreams May Come

[CONTINUED]

[OLD]

Unbeknownst as to the reason why, Cattmor was feeling increasingly uneasy about the situation, and being in the cloud. Even more so now that they had found conclusive proof that something had gone wrong with the previous expeditions. She paused slightly, practically looking through T'mpest sitting in her seat. "Away team, captain?" she asked almost fearing the answer, and focussing more on the person in the 'centre chair', while picking up clear thoughts from Mister Blake regarding his warnings about choosing the members of it more wisely from the other evening.

"I want to see what we can learn from here first," T'mpest said, glancing over at Rylie. "If we can't find anything, we can send a team over, but if we do, I'd like them in full EVA suits. Something feels odd about the crash."

[NEW]

Cattmor was both relieved and apprehensive regarding T'mpest's decision, though she made positively sure that she outwardly displayed neither feeling. "Aye captain." she said quietly as she took her own seat once again and glanced at the central console, her mind briefly elsewhere. She hated EVA suits, and almost didn't make it through the standard training in her fourth year of the Academy. It was the first time she'd actually felt claustrophobic, that she could remember that is.

That wasn't the only reason however for her sense of apprehension, and feeling the quickening pace of her heart made it abundantly clear that was the case. Curiosity got the better of her as she carefully probed outward; not that she had to do much as surface thoughts were always easily picked up on. She was doing her utmost to hide it, but if Rylie could put a word to the general hum of thoughts irradiating from T'mpest, she would have sworn that it was making the half-Vulcan... uncomfortable. I feel the same way, captain. she projected a metre to her right.

T'mpest picked up on the message and inclined her head in acknowledgment. Then we proceed with extreme caution.

"Perrrhaps I can modify a drrrone to physically lock onto a terrrminal and communicate frrrom a distance, commanderrr, but I cannot guarrrantee that'll worrrk, we won't have the advantage of crrreativity of an away team." T'kaarch purred.

"Do what you can, Lieutenant." Rylie returned, almost resigning to the fact that the Caitian was probably right. It was probably a call for T'mpest to make, but the Ranger's position seemed inexplicably precarious, and Cattmor wanted this mission done as soon as possible, and not only for the benefit of Maridius Prime. "Mister Blake, please assist. Lieutenant," she said turning to Orin at the tactical station, "If the Edmorn is here, can you detect any traces of the other vessel?"

"Aye Commander," Dylan responded rather flatly since be and T'kaarch had never really played nicely together. But this wasn't about that the human reminded himself with a slightly shake of his head, this was about finding answers and aiding Maridius Prime.

Orin gave a quick nod and began to work at the console. He scanned the area with the sensors and set it up to scan for what they had on file. A small display came up showed the results. "Nothing so far, Captain. The cloud is making it hard to expand the sensors."

"Check for any other ships in the cloud," T'mpest added. "We know about three, but there may be more."

He began again, this time setting the scan up for anything unusual or undetermined. As the scan went through, the prompt came up about the results. Orin paused slightly, double checking the sensors results just to be sure. "Nothing, but I did find something interesting. Sensors picked up an element in the cloud that might be causing the interference, but it isn't in any of our records."

"Interesting. Send the information to science,' T'mpest said to Orin.

Then she turned to T'kaarch. "Lieutenant, get your people to examine the cloud and see what you can learn about this element. In the meantime, continue preparing the probe. I want to know why caused that ship to crash."

Finally, she turned to Rylie. "Why do I feel like Alice looking at a rabbit with a pocket watch?"
