The Trial of Admiral Jubb (part 1)

"We're not waiting, we can't wait" Jaenero said as he walked with his aide to the council chambers where they were going to hold the sentencing of Admiral Jubb and the rest of his team. They couldn't even call it a trial any more, he was guilty, he was there. The others, well, Jaenero wasn't really worried about them. They seemed to know nothing of the past so they could either be returned or sent to rot in prison. "If Commander Michaels wants to turn up, she can, if not, sentence will be passed regardless."

They entered just as the Starfleet officers were being led in by heavily armed guards, and Jubb was taken to stand in the centre of the large room. Jaenero turned to the majority group, "Sit, please." They did so quietly and he went on to address the Admiral, "Admiral Jubb of the Federation Starfleet, you are hereby charged with dereliction of duty to the Lantiri people, treason, murder of more than twelve thousand citizens, and attempted genocide. How do you plead?"

Keen did nothing to cause any repercussions, the team had come down into a trap; and like all traps it was planned and executed. Keen felt the Prophets urging him to wait and not open his mouth until it was directed at him. This was not even a justice trial but more of a confrontation.

Before Jubb responded, and as the charges were being laid out, T'mpest, along with a very cut and bruised Rylie Cattmor, a very tired looking Rami Miral, her leg still caked with blood from the bullet wound, a frazzled Adriana Keen, and Varik Maas beamed into the chamber. "I, too, would like to hear your answer, Admiral," T'mpest said, loud enough to alert everyone to their presence.

The guards then registered exactly who is in the group, and raised their weapons at Maas. "He is under Federation protection," T'mpest stated. "I recommend you put down your weapons."

With a side look to Jaenero, with a slight nod received, indicating he wanted to deal with Jubb first, the Lantiri security forces lowered their weapons but stayed on high alert.

Adriana barely registered the guards, the weapons, or the Admiral. She was looking for Morai. T'mpest hadn't wanted to let her come down, but Adriana had argued, had practically begged and practically threatened that if she wasn't taken down with the party she'd find a way down somehow. She locked her eyes on her husband and almost collapsed with relief that he seemed to be alright.

Jubb shrugged his shoulders slightly. "Not guilty."

"Governor Jaenero, I have uncovered evidence to contradict the Admiral's claim of innocence," T'mpest said.

"My record was expunged." Jubb stated matter-of-factly, practically ignoring T'mpest's obvious attempt at pinning something on him, and he wasn't having it. "I was investigated by command and all evidence and records pointed to my then first officer."

"That's what you told them, and you believed it?" Jaenero said incensed in turn to Jubb, then T'mpest. "Our own evidence sees you escaping on your vessel, and detonating a second biotoxin tube in the upper atmosphere of Landreah. Commander Michaels, you have to see..."

"I already have, Governor," T'mpest interrupted. "I have seen not only the records from your planet's databanks, but I have uncovered the original logs from Admiral Jubb's personal logs and ship's records during his time on Landreah." She turned to look at the Admiral. "The ones you altered to frame your former XO. Ensign Rodney sent a complete report to Starfleet Command. I'm sure they'll review their original findings and overturn the original verdict."

Jubb's jaw clenched. "You think you're so smart, all of you," he said gesturing to virtually everyone in the room. "No... no it wasn't over, and still isn't. You think you've won," he said with contempt at T'mpest, "you think you're going to execute me," he continued to Jaenero. "You've already lost, both of you. I'm already dead. I lost my spirit and will a long time ago, and none of you can do anything more to me. You think I ran and hid, Jaenero?"

"Justice has won," T'mpest said quietly, knowing nothing she could say would influence the Admiral now.

"What you did..."

"What I did?" Jubb butted in, raising his voice. "I haven't even started. Dereliction? Treason? It's nothing compared to what I have planned."

Rylie couldn't be silent any longer as the strong emotions emanating from the Admiral were so intense, his thoughts were now an open book. "Twelve years ago, we were sent here to help these people, and all you succeeded in doing was commit murder. Now you're back here, you just want to finish the job you started."

"For the good of all!" Jubb shouted.

Cattmor's face crinkled slightly at the disgust she felt from the Admiral's thoughts. "No!" she fired back with her own voice raised, "You'e only thinking of yourself. I can see it in your mind." Jubb's worried look said it all, the device that hid his thoughts from any telepath was no longer present, probably dropped or removed when he was put down by the guards before.

"What are you saying?" Jaenero asked slowly.

"I'm a telepath," Cattmor started without looking away from Jubb, "Admiral Jubb wasn't here with the rest of us as a simple mission observer, he was here to enact what he tried to do before. He planned to commit murder of the most unconscionable degree. He was actually going to perform genocide."

"They speak the truth, Jaenero." Varik said entering the fray. "I have seen a sample of the evidence."

Jaenero exhaled sharply, finally regarding Maas. "And you, a criminal consorting with the enemy."

"These people are not your enemy, not all of them. The only one of them present at the wake was this one," Maas said motioning at Jubb.

"Varik!" Jubb spat, "Not only a traitor to your own people, but that of outsiders as well. I trusted you. I helped you. I gave you technology to complete the objectives, and now here you stand as if you hold no guilt at all. You're as lost as they are. You, all of you are a lost people," he screamed before finishing darkly, "I will see this place burn, and I'll see all of you burn right along with it!"
