Mission: Quarantine!
Location: Science Dept.

Liz like most new people always wanted to see the ship that they would be working on. She felt so green in comparison to those around her. It wasn't that she didn't know her job, she did but she also knew that it would be a good idea to meet most of the department chiefs to get a feel for how they functioned together and how they ran their department. If an emergency came up she didn't want to meet them then. Better to do it before hand. Liz was now near the science area of the ship and was just a tad lost.

Jimmy just had his shift done, and briskly stepped out of the Science Labs, as he saw Liz studying the hallway chart of the Ranger. "Can I help you, Ensign...?" Only then he realized he never met her; While he didn't think he knew every single name on the ship, the Ranger was small enough to know everyone by face, at least.

"Oh hi, I'm just a little turned around" she smiled a disarming smile.

Jimmy looked at the woman, then remembered the Ranger had had some reinforcements. He made a mental note to have more attention for the Captain's memo's, then extended his hand. "I'm Lieutenant Jimmy Cooper, Chief Science Officer. You're only steps away from my office." He grinned as he nodded to the door he just came out of.

Liz returned his grin with one of her own, it was almost infectious. "Can we sit for a moment?"

"Sure, we can slip right back into my office. But, I do wonder, do you have a name?" His hand was still outstretched, and if it went unanswered, that would make for an awkward situation for sure.

"Liz Rhyn" She replied in her calm quiet voice as she shook his out stretched hand.

As they entered the science department Liz almost felt at home, almost. It was all the technical equipment that was available here that she enjoyed. That and the few plants. She took a seat. "I wondered two things while studying the schematic."

"Yes?" Jimmy had seated on his office chair, with Liz opposite to him. In the work light, Liz's features sprung out even more. While she looked like a young woman, there was something wise beyond her years in her face and gestures, although it was hard to pinpoint what exactly it was. Other than that, she did look as human as Jimmy was.

Liz's voice was quiet and even although her grin spoke volumes. "Do we have an arboretum aboard and can I have permission to use a lab once in a while to help germinate some hybrid flowers?"

Jimmy blinked. He hadn't anticipated the question, and it wasn't every day that pretty girls asked him something with flowers... Setting his mind straight, it took a second for him to answer. "As the Ranger is a relatively small ship, we do not have a specific arboretum onboard at this time, however," Jimmy would hate to see that smile leave Liz's face, "I can talk to the captain and see whether we can't set something up for you. As for the lab, I see no problem with it, as long as you don't keep my crewmen off their work," Jimmy thought about adding something about danger, then wondered whatever could be wrong with some flowers. "Well, that." He finished with a half-smile

"Oh no I would never want to interrupt anyone's work, and it is really too bad about the arboretum. Every ship should have one, it can be so soothing to just go and sit in it. Even it its the size of a small closet." Liz chuckled "Then..." Liz shrugged "I have another question, since we do not have an arboretum. Would it be possible to acquire a few pots and dirt to play in some time soon. I have a few bulbs that need planting." Liz explained with a smile.

"I can replicate them right away," Jimmy answered, "but if you want real soil, I'll see what I can do on our next stop."

"Well real soil is preferable but will take replicated. Most science departments have some floating around, well not literally but you know what I mean." Liz laughed lightly "three to five pot would be nice and maybe a ultraviolet light if you have one."Liz had a real list on a PADD but it was back in her quarters so she tried to remember it off the top of her head.

"I'll see what I can do," Jimmy answered simply. "Can I help you with anything else?"

Liz continued politely "No that will be enough, your kindness has been appreciated."

As Jimmy stood up, he added. "Nothing to worry, if you have anything else don't hesitate to ask."

"I will thank you" Liz said
