Looking Down

Posted on Sun Jan 29th, 2012 @ 8:41pm by Lieutenant Commander Dylan Blake

205 words; about a 1 minute read

Mission: Fishing
Location: Baden-Powell
Timeline: Current

"Safe voyage," Blake muttered as he watched with baited breath the elegant shape of the Ranger descended into the atmosphere. He squirmed aboard the Baden-Powell during the flight, watching on tender hooks for his sensors to confirm they'd landed safely. What if something had happened? Something they had not yet accounted for? Would the flyer be manly enough for a rescue mission on that scale?

Agonising seconds ticked past as his eyes raked his instruments, a ribbon of cold sweat travelling between his shoulder blades and dampening his palms.

Where were they?

He felt tense, utterly helpless lost in the unknown and frightened.

Then, finally the Baden-Powell registered the Ranger having successfully landed in the depths of the ocean in one piece and critically undamaged. Blake sighed with relief and sat back in his seat safe in the knowledge his crew mates were alright.

He allowed his eyes to wonder the flyer's continues sensor scans taking care to examine the moon that hung close by as a constant reminder they were not alone in the system before turning his attention to the flyer itself and the facilities that were available to him.

It wasn't a life of luxury but at least it wasn't underwater either.
