That Time After

343 words; about a 2 minute read

Mission: Fishing
Timeline: Current

If money had have existed in the twenty-fourth century, Alex would've given a good amount of it to see Elsie's face as she left the good Captain's Ready Room. Either that or paid good money to have eyes implanted in the back of her head. She had a skill of sensing behind her, but it wasn't quite that good. Her job there was done in any case, Halliwell was aware of her error and Kendrick's thoughts regarding it, and the listening device was planted underneath the back fold of the chair.

Despite wanting to annoy Halliwell even further by staying on the bridge aimlessly, Kendrick hadn't had any food or drink for several hours so decided to attend the mess hall on Deck 2. She grabbed a storage PADD and transferred some statistical and report data from the main system management display screen along the back wall, and exited in the turbolift just to the side of the security console.

// Mess Hall, Deck 2

Completely ignoring the crew member that almost bowled her over running late for his next duty shift, Kendrick went straight to the replicator and ordered a nozala sandwich and janaran tea, and took a seat looking out the window--a distant view of Taylforth and its moon presenting itself through the glass. As she was sitting there looking out the window, her mind began to wander to seven years previous, to a world she was stationed temporarily not unlike the one which the USS Voyager discovered when they were whisked off to the Delta Quadrant by 'The Caretaker'.

How much symmetry the universe had, and no equality at all. Maybe that's why it was such with life as well, just so that people didn't feel left out or disconnected with the universe. She was there undercover posing as a simple trader of antiquities in the local markets to catch a Starfleet officer turned mercenary.

No matter right now as her mind returned to the present, and taking a sip of tea, she activated the PADD, and began reading.
