Mission: Taylforth
Location: Bridge, USS Ranger
Timeline: Current

ON:

It’s good to get out of the ready room and back into open space, Halliwell thought as she sat in her captain’s chair looking onward to the opening doors of the starbase.

The bridge had, once again, come alive with flashing control panels and beeps assaulting her senses from all around her. This was the place where Elsie felt most comfortable. In control, informed and, more importantly, at the centre of activity on the Ranger. Before she began, she looked around the bridge. Officers of all three colours manned every station as the familiar hum of the engines rumbled beneath them. Quietly, each officer was checking their stations, their systems, and relaying the information about the Intrepid class science vessel with lightening speed.

Elsie turned to T’mpest and smiled. The Vulcan woman sat by her side, quiet and with a look of utter calm about her. In the short time Elsie had known of her new First Officer she had donned grey, then teal and now command red. She nodded to her, leant in and said, “Why don’t you take us out, Commander.â€

T'mpest nodded to the Captain. She pressed the comm button on the arm of her chair. "All stations report ready for departure."

"All stations reporting ready," replied Shepherd, standing at tactical.

"Lieutenant Blake, contact the starbase. We're ready to depart on their orders," T'mpest said.

"Aye ma'am," Blake manipulated the channel to hail the station.

"Engineering, what's your status?" she asked, continuing down her mental pre-departure list.

Alex sat at the Engineering station on the Bridge for a change. He decided that it would be a good idea to spend some time there for a change. "Engineering ready. Warp Engines are online. Power is stable."

"Docking clamps released," Blake announced as the starbase responded to the communication and bid the Ranger a safe journey.

"Commander Zhukov, ahead one quarter impulse." The side of T'mpest's mouth quirked up ever so slightly. It was not the first time she'd taken a ship out of spacedock, but it was the first time she'd done so on the Ranger and she was glad she could share it with Vladimir.

Vladimir nodded as he turned back in his chair to face forward towards the viewscreen. He kind of liked being ordered around by his...girlfriend. He smiled at that thought.

"Aye, Commander. Moving to one quarter impulse power." he said as he slowly moved the control pad up with his right index finger.

"Engaging maneuvering thrusters." he added as he activated the small outboard thrusters to make getting out of space dock easier. "Starbase Control reports we have cleared moorings. I am proceeding to Door zero-five for exit." he stated as he felt the Ranger begin to lurch forward. He shifted his weight in his chair a bit. Someone had moved the settings in his chair.

"Steady as she goes, Commander," T'mpest said, watching the screen as the ship slowly made its way to and through door zero five.

"Impulse Engines on standby." The Engineer chimed in from his post.

Elsie remained silent, watching her team work in unison about her. She looked up and could see the leering doors through the viewscreen open slowly as they approached. There seemed one moment when her eyes widened as the thought of scraping the hull on the interior as they left shot through her mind. But then, sitting beneath it, the visage of Zhukov manning the help belayed her fears.

At last they cleared the doors and entered open space. T'mpest smiled. "Well done, everyone." She checked to see that Vladimir had set the course for Taylforth IV. "Prepare for warp as soon as we clear the system."

"Aye, aye." Zhukov said as he began to enter the coordinates into Helm control.

From the observation deck on DS5, passing crewmen watched as the sleek Intrepid wheeled to starboard, aligning itself for warp speed. The nacelle pylons angled up gracefully and glowed bright, and in a single moment of visual distortion the ship leapt into the void, leaving only a momentary gleam of light.
