The image of Captain Richard Northcutt was on the viewscreen in front of them. Vladimir thought him to be in his late 50's with long gray hair and steel blue eyes. He had the air of authority about him, and Zhukov knew, based on his reputation, that he was one of the senior Captain's in Starfleet. He had, in fact, served as a junior officer under Admiral Vladimir Zhukov, his grandfather. The younger Zhukov wished he had had a chance to meet him, but his shift schedule and constant training hadn't made that possible.

"Captain, good luck and God's speed. The Fairfax is heading for Starbase 77, which, as you know, is not far away at maximum warp. If you need anything at all, we are just a subspace message away." said Northcutt from his Ready Room.

“Thank you, Captain, Elsie called out from her command chair as she sat on the bridge beside her First Officer. “And thank you for the ‘jump-start’. I’m sure we’ll see each other again, after all, space isn’t so big.

"Acknowledged, Captain. Northcutt out." he said as the screen went to a view of the canyon in front of them.

She smiled warmly in reply to the man, nodded to Blake to cease communications and then turned back. “Safe journey, she uttered.

After bathing in the harsh heat of the plant Blake felt his flesh rise to goosebumps in the cooler interior of the ship. He shivered slightly at the captain's nod ending the transmission.

Now standing, Elsie walked confidently into the centre of the bridge and heaved a sigh of relief. “Mr. Zhukov, don’t you have a fully functioning ship at your fingertips? We have a comrade to find.

"Aye, Captain. Powering up thrusters." said Zhukov. A part of him was going to miss this place. It was a fascinating culture that had a very interesting history.

"And lift off in five, four, three, two, one..." said Vladimir as the ship rose slowly from the canyon floor.

"Coming about now, Captain. Engaging impulse engines. Setting a course 2-7-0 Mark 8-5 to escape the planet's gravity and to avoid a sonic boom over land." Zhukov said as he took two fingers and ran them up the display panel slowly giving more power to the impulse engines. He could feel the power of the Ranger as she slowly began to climb up into the lower atmosphere, breaking the speed of sound within about ten seconds."

"Maintain course and heading, Mr. Zhukov." Drake ordered calmly from his station, smiling pleasantly. There was nothing complicated about what they were doing and no reason for anything fancy either. Simply a straight shot up and out, without incident - heavens knew they were flying into what could only be an incident that they knew nothing about.

"Structural integrity is stable," reported Lieutenant Fisher from the tactical station. It was one of those reports that unless something is wrong is usually superfluous to discussion, but, since he was still new to the role, he was sticking to the letter of the law for the time being.

Elsie returned to her seat and slid elegantly into its bucket. It had seemed a long time since she had felt full command of the Ranger and the feeling of security flowed through her. “Once we clear the system, Mr. Zhukov, set a course for the Ionasixal System, maximum warp.

As the Ranger entered the outer atmosphere and began to enter the vastness of space, Zhukov made some adjustments. "Aye, Captain. Rudder amidships now." he replied. "New course heading, 1-2-4 Mark 1-6. Destination, planet Overton." Vladimir said. "Standing by, Captain." he said as he turned in his chair slightly to look at the Captain and awaited her order.

“Mark, Commander, Elsie stated, a sharp twinkle in her eye.

She turned to Drake and said, beneath her breath, “Let’s hope we get there in one piece, this time. I’m just thankful that the Fairfax could complete our transport run to the station.
