Captain Elsie Halliwell strolled aimlessly through the meandering corridors of the Ranger. It had been almost a week since the Intrepid ‘Light Explorer’ had crash landed (elegantly, thanks to Lieutenant Zhukov’s piloting skills) on Marchwiel and, as the unstructured time lay ever endlessly out before them, the monotony and, to an extent, the claustrophobia of the situation, was starting to irritate the woman subtly beneath the skin.
She had heard no sign of the exploratory away team and had, motherly, began to ponder of their progress… and safety. In retrospect, she had come to the silent realisation that she should have heeded her Chief Security Officer and allowed them more protection in the guise of technology.
Suddenly, as she professionally ambled through the snaking maze, her combadge chirped.
“Captain, you have an incoming subspace message from the Fairfax. They’ve just entered communications’ range.�
She heaved a sigh before tapping the badge to respond, smiled, and began to make her way to her ready room.
“Understood,� she replied, not allowing the utter relief to taint her tone, “I’m on my way!�
