A Friendly Visit

With the end of the mission, T'mpest found herself with a lot of time on her hands. So, she decided to meet the new members of the senior staff.

She walked into sickbay and stopped a nurse. "Excuse me, is Lieutenant Marsten available?"

Nykala heard her name and pulled herself away from the lab sample in front of her to see who was looking for her. She recognized Commander Michaels from the promotion ceremony a few days ago. Nykala turned back to the sample long enough to secure it and make sure that she entered her findings in the patients record. She finished just as Commander Michaels headed in her direction.

"Hello Commander. Welcome to sickbay. Is there anything I can help you with?"

"I simply wished to meet you," T'mpest replied.

Smiling at the Commander Nykala gestured toward her office with her left arm. "Why don't we go to my office? It's a bit more comfortable in there and we won't have to dodge the medical staff."

Nykala entered her office and headed straight for the replicator. Something about being at a desk meant that she had to have her trusty mug of hot chocolate. Some people probably thought that her hot chocolate obsession was a bit juvenile, but for some reason the warm sweetness had been her beverage of choice since she was a child. As she waited for her hot chocolate to materialize she glanced at Commander Michaels over her shoulder. "Can I get you anything Commander?"

Smelling the chocolate as it materialized, she grinned. "I'll have what you're having. With whipped cream."

A matching grin appeared on Nykala's face. She programmed the ordered beverage and turned towards Commander Michaels. "I can appreciate a woman who has an appreciation for chocolate."

Nykala took the second mug out of the replicator and handed it to Commander Michaels. She sat in her chair and indicated the empty chairs in front of the desk. "I welcome the break your visit has given me. I seem to be running non-stop since I came on board."

"It's been a little crazy around here of late," T'mpest said as she picked up her cup of cocoa and took a sip.

After taking a testing sip of her hot chocolate Nykala set the mug on her desk and folded her hands loosely in her lap. "It's my own fault. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and i run a tight ship so to speak. I'm a firm believer that organization saves lives."

"I'm Vulcan," T'mpest said. "We like order as well." She grinned. "It is... logical."

Nykala nodded,"Yet another thing we seem to have in common. Tell me Commander, are you looking forward to the somewhat laid back mission a head? I imagine that the Ranger doesn't get tasked with too many supply runs."

"Yes and no. I like slow periods, but a supply run will basically mean my department has a long vacation." She chuckled. "But I'm sure I'll manage to keep busy in spite of that."

Nykala reached for her mug of hot chocolate and took another swallow then cradled the warm mug in her hands."Once we get caught up on things here in sickbay things will most likely slow down for me as well. I, however, intend to take advantage of that to get to know my new home a little better. I have yet to make one social call to the lounge or make my once weekly visit to the holodeck."

"I haven't managed to get to the lounge, either, so you're one up on me," T'mpest replied. "What sort of programs do you like to run?"

A whimsical almost home sick look came over Nykala's face."I visit the coastline of South Carolina mostly. My parents have a summer home along the coast there and it is one of my favorite places to be. I have a program that is an exact replica of that place. Nothing like a day at the beach soaking up the sand and surf."

Pulling herself away from the memories Nykala smiled at Commander Michaels."How about you Commander? Any thing special you like to do?"

"I love to read and explore ancient ruins," T'mpest said. "I'm fortunate in that my work is also my hobby." She paused for a moment before explaining. "I am an historian and an archaeologist. I was Chief Science Officer on my last ship."

Nykala's interest was peaked. "You make it sound very exciting. I myself would love to explore ancient ruins but I think I would get more pleasure out of sketching them. Perhaps when we both have time you could take me on a tour of some of your favorite sights on the holodeck."

"That sounds like fun. Some of them are definitely worth sketching," T'mpest replied. She always enjoyed showing off some of her favorite ancient sites.

Smiling Nykala took another swallow of her hot chocolate. "Well, Commander I have a couple days off coming up soon perhaps we could both explore a site of your choosing. It would be a new experience for me."

""I look forward to it," T'mpest said. "I'd better get back to my office. It was nice meeting you."

Nykala stood and smiled at the Commander. "I also have a lot of work to do and meeting you was a pleasure as well. I look forward to our adventure."
