The sickbay doors opened Turoc entered escorted by four of the ships largest, burliest security guards who had him at phaser point Turoc said with a scowl "I'm here for my Psychological evaluation."
Carter had read all of Turoc's medical history and was well aware of his nature. His 7 feet of height towered above her, casting a shadow over her desk but knowing what she knew about his species, she refused to show any fear.
Instead, she rose to her feet and said in a clear, loud voice "hello to you, Ensign Turoc. Please, take a seat on that chair over there." She indicated a chair a few feet away from her desk. Then she jumped up onto her desk, sitting on top of it so that they could be as near each other's eye level as possible.
Keeping eye contact with the Ensign at all times, she declared "I don't think there is any need for you gentlemen to be present at this meeting. She motioned to the four security officers to leave, adding "I don't believe that the Ensign would harm a defenceless woman counsellor, especially one who has ultimate power to have him thrown from the ship under the Starfleet Psychological Evaluation Code."
"Very well counsellor, your are either very brave or foolish." he said as sat in the chair
"I am neither, Ensign" replied Carter. "I am a professional counsellor and hope you will treat me with the respect I am treating you." She remained in eye contact at all times, hoping it would be enough to keep him engaged.
She continued. "Now I understand that you have already been involved in an altercation with another crewman whilst on board and served time in the brig. Let me say, I do understand that it is hard for a warrior species like yours to remain calm amongst unknown humanoids. It is a skill that must be learned. Given that you are sitting calming in my office already, I applaud you for keeping your cool. It is something of which you should be proud."
"As long a I'm being treated with respect I will give it simple request right"' he said in that gravely voice of his
"Then I think we understand each other, Ensign." Carter nodded, not removing her gaze from her patient for a second.
"I have a proposition for you" she went on, wanting to run from the room but keeping her ground and not moving an inch. "Given that you are serving on board this fine ship and that you already have the respect of Commander Lane, would you be willing to make a compromise? I am sure you would want to continue serving under his command."
Carter made sure she chose her next words carefully. "It has been suggested by the highest authority that it would be more comfortable for you to operate on board under certain circumstances".
He crooked his head to the side "what ....circumstances exactly?" he inquired
"Under medically supervised aggression suppression" said Carter as clearly as she could. "This would by no means be a permanent state of affairs and would not alter your person at all. But what it would mean would be that you would not want to act upon every impulsive thought. If you like - you would operate as normal but would find it much easier to get on with your duties, without the distraction of aggression"
Carter paused for breath, continuing to look the other in the eye. She breathed in slowly and waited for Turoc's reaction, ever poised to erect the force field around him, should the need arise. She hoped he would see sense and that he would agree to the medical conditions of him staying on board.
Turoc's eyes narrowed " And I can chose to terminate this at any time should it be deemed to be affecting my person?" he inquired.
"It is not a permanent procedure but that if you choose to terminate it, you will be breaking the contract you agreed to at its inception."
"Very well you may proceed, but I request reevaluation every month to determine if i can continue to serve with out it."
"I should imagine that the ship's doctor would want to see you more often than that" replied Carter. " Are you happy then for the procedure to take place? I believe the doctor will see you in sickbay after this meeting if you so wish." She continued her gaze at him and didn't move a muscle.
"Yes, I'm happy with the procedure to take place but I would like a schedule of the follow-ups."
Carter was pleased at this. She stood up and bowed her head at Turoc. Then she looked him in the eye again and said "I am glad we have reached an understanding. Please report to sickbay where the doctor will advise you of the next step".
"Finally someone that doesn't hate me." he said as stood up and headed for sick bay.
Carter watched him go all the way to the exit and it was only when the door had closed behind him that she released the breathe she had been holding and put her head in her hands with relief.
