Mission: Shoreleave - Welcoming Old Friends and New
Location: Mess Hall, Deck Two
Timeline: Current

ON:

As Captain Kerr stretched his legs under his own desk in his ready room, a feeling of slight claustrophobia took a hold of his senses. He yawned slightly, and took to his feet wanting to clear his mind of the pending mission they were about to set sail for.

It had been a long day.

He mused down the corridors on deck two and the subtle hint of caffeine withdrawal guided him to the Mess without his conscious knowledge aware of it. As the doors breathed open, he strode over to the replicator, materialised a hot cup of coffee and sat down at one of the many vacant tables, facing the viewport that framed Mars beautifully.

The doors to the mess hall would slide open once again "do dodo do" Sam humming to herself as she strode directly for the replicator. Oh, the hard choices in life, standing there a moment as she wondered on what to have. Of course the constant bugging thought to have anything with chocolate in it was there but as per usual she would fight it away. A beef sandwich with horseradish. Mmm. Grabbing the meal as soon as it appeared and turning to the room, where to sit, why was this day so complicated.

Looking up from the black, reflective surface of his coffee, Kerr noticed the Ensign, and meekly smiled before returning to view the beauty beyond the window.

It would be hard to miss the captain, sat there all by himself. Maybe Sam should go over and introduce herself but why get on his radar any earlier than needed? Especially whilst eating a sandwich. Instead she would politely smile back and opt to head over towards the viewports. She liked to sit facing the room so she could people watch.

“Ensign, the captain called out as she moved through the tables to one opposite. “It’s hardly busy in here, but, why don’t you join me? Pointless us both sitting on empty tables in silence.

Since having been joined, Kerr wanted to connect with the crew as Lane had done. He looked the same, and sometimes he even thought the same, but some of the officers, especially the senior staff that he had come to know, looked at him with an odd curiosity that not only perplexed but concerned him to a degree.

Alex's amber eyes snapped up as she heard the call of “Ensign. A quick look around to check for other Ensigns, Dammit. It seemed the captain was talking to her. Trying for a polite smile, she walked over and plonked herself down in the chair opposite him. "Thanks… Just got on board, don't know anyone, so was expecting silence for a while," the smile flicking sheepish for a moment.

“Not from me, Ensign, he replied, picking up his coffee again as he spoke.

Grabbing for her sandwich and taking a huge bite of it before realizing this probably wasn't the best example to set in front of the captain. A little laugh as she would use her other hand to cover her mouth some as she set the sandwich back down.

“So, not long been onboard, huh? the Trill asked after waiting a moment for her to swallow. “I haven’t had chance to familiarise myself with the new crewmembers as yet, I apologise. He waved his hand in a disarming and humorous manner and chucked. “But, she’s a small ship so I am sure to meet everyone soon. And you are…?

"Literally just walked on board" which she had, other than that little stop off to her quarters of course, Sam would nod her head politely as she listened to him before answering. "Ensign Troy. I am sure we will probably meet again in a at-work setting sooner or later." She chuckled quietly as she ran her fingertips against the edge of her plate.

“Well, it’s nice to meet you Ensign Troy, Kerr said after a moment. “I’m Coltan Kerr so, welcome aboard the Archimedes, Ensign. I’m sure we’ll put you to work as soon as we can. He smiled a little at her.

"I haven't met with my department head yet, I don't think I get put to work just yet" another chuckle which would fade off as Sam mused for a moment, "…at least I don't think so... I didn't think to check when I got in."

“Don’t worry about that, Ensign. Until we officially get called to duty, we’re on shoreleave any how. Well, he continued, standing as he spoke, “it was nice to meet you, Ensign, and I’m sure that I’ll be seeing you around before long.

When Sam realized he was standing to leave she would politely stand too "nice to meet you to too Sir" a nod of her head before watching him walk off, her attention immediately returning to her sandwich as she retook to her seat. It was more than a little unsettling to sit with the Captain on your first day but she wouldn't think about that too much until after she was done eating priorities.
