Mission:
Shoreleave - Welcoming Old Friends and New
Location: Main Engineering
Timeline: Current
ON:
As John stood there in the engine room of his first duty station he was struck in amazement at the sheer sight of the ship. He walked around the main room and saw the matter/antimatter mixing into the long cylindrical warp core. It was an awesome sight. He looked over to see the two Lieutenants standing by the engineering console conversing. He approached them and reported in.
“Ensign Bradshaw, reporting for duty, Sir.
Skanda glanced first at Blake, then at the ensign. Ensign Bradshaw, now why was that familiar... It came back to her suddenly and she nodded in understanding. "Th' new transpor'er chief, aye. Good t' 'ave y', Ensign." She faced him and clasped her hands behind her back. "As y' may 'r mayn't know, I'm Skanda Sheedy, Chief Engineer, 'n' this's m' assis'ant chief, Dylan Blake." She tipped her head at Dylan as an indicator.
Having only been aboard a short while and taken in the sights of the ship Dylan Blake was still having issues translating Skanda's accent. Other then hearing his own name being spoken the rest of her sentence almost passed him by if he hadn't of been concentrating hard enough. His lips moved into a shallow smile as Skanda introduced him to Ensign Bradshaw like a trophy on display.
Paul politely returned the smile and said, “Nice to meet you, Sir. Introductions were never his strong point throughout life, It's probably why he never made too many friends growing up. Paul turned his attention back to the Chief and with a soft tone he said, “I’m excited to be a member of this crew and I’m ready to do my part for the ship, Sir. That was totally nerdy, he thought to himself after the words had already left his mouth.
The grin on Blake's face grew as he could have sworn he'd seen Bradshaw wince at his own introduction. Only a few years ago Blake was like that himself, green and wet behind the ears but after a period of time he settled.
"Aren't we all," Dylan said gently trying to urge him to relax a touch. "I'm sure you'll do your very best and fit in without a hitch."
The words of wisdom helped Paul ease his posture a bit and let out a sigh of relief. “Thank You, Sir he replied. With that in mind he felt a little more confident inside and turned his gaze back towards the Chief.
Kerr marched up the main Engineering double doors as they slid open before him. Fluidly striding, padds in hand and swinging about the tops of his thighs, he continued his trajectory and made for the Chief’s office. It had been a hard day, and with Kerr having just left a meeting with Command concerning the Archimedes new assignment orders, streams of thoughts (not always his own) were racing through his mind. As he entered, not only did he see Skanda stood in the centre of the room, but she was accompanied by two others.
“Morning, he said to all three. “And how are we all today?
Skanda nodded to her CO. "Mornin', Cap'n. Good day s' far, now tha' w've go' a bran' new transpor'er chief." She looked meaningfully at Bradshaw, then glanced around for the former transporter chief. The Cardassian man had been sulking ever since Bradshaw had come aboard and she wasn't even sure he'd showed up this morning. "He looks like 'e'll do a sigh' be'er job than th' las' one, y'll b' glad t' know."
Paul's gaze shifted as the Captain entered the room, he straightened his posture and returned the greeting "Good Morning Captain."
Dlyan stiffened in the presnce of the Captain who he'd met in passing on his Preliminary tour. "Good morning, sir," he said responding to the Captain's warm greeting.
“Good, I’m glad that you’re all well. In fact, it’s a good job that everyone’s here like this. It’ll save Skanda from dispersing this information through the crew on her own. He smiled, and winked at his Orion Chief. “We’re just got our orders, so we’re just waiting for the Fleet Yards staff to finish up and then we’re off. Skanda and Blake, I want you to liaise with Ops and, once the Yard staff have left the ship, start getting her sea-worthy.
He turned to the new Transporter Chief and nodded. “Ensign Bradshaw, I need a full account of who’s reported back on board and I’ll need you to contact and get the rest to us. We all still have a few days before this kicks off, so don’t start anything until tomorrow. I don’t want to recall the staff from their Shoreleave before we have to. But, our orders stand, so we need to get the ball rolling.
"Aye Sir" Bradshaw acknowledged.
Blake nodded. "I'm sure Skanda and I will have her ready in no time, and maybe fit those niggling things the Yard staff missed."
“Missed? Kerr questioned, his eyebrow raising with a curiosity that he just didn’t have time to culture.
Blake smiled good natured. "Oh you know sir, the things that you've been meaning to fix for ages. Those little things that make our jobs just that little bit more manageable."
“Oh, Lieutenant. Good. Keep me updated and when you have completed the task, submit your report to Commander Arkham. If there’s nothing else, then I should get back. We still have a lot to do before our departure.
