A Diplomatic Tour

630 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: Shoreleave - Welcoming Old Friends and New
Location: USS Archimedes
Timeline: Current

ON:

Yvette had finally found her way to the bridge and thus the ready room. In the back of her mind she commended herself for the fact she was able to get lost on such a small ship. What should have been no more than a two minute journey had turned into forty five minutes wondering aimlessly around deck four in circles.

Now she smoothed down her hair and pressed the chime on the Captain’s ready room door, hoping to god that he was in there and not inspecting the ship.

Looking up from the console before him, Kerr interlaced his fingers on the desk, smiled and bade the caller entry.

“Come, he said, powering down the sensitive computer and sliding is aside. “Ah, Ms LaFaal. How are you? Settled in already? he asked, nodding to the seat across his desk.

"Actually", she moved across and sat in the offered chair. "I just spent four five minutes trying to find my way to the bridge. I ended up lost on deck four somehow."
She chuckled as she saw the Captain’s smile.

“Well, I’m sure that you’ll navigate your way successfully soon enough. Have you seen much of the ship, Lieutenant? The arboretum is probably my favourite place to visit. I just find it so peaceful. Rory loves it, too, which gladdens me. How have you found your office? Or have you not stumbled across it, yet?

"My advice to you Captain", a devilish grin spread across her elfin features. "Never let me navigate".

This elicited a full laugh from her as she saw the Captain’s bemused expression. She was of course making reference to her inability to navigate herself out of a paper bag, thus having no sense of direction at all.

“Well, I’ll inform Mr. Warner to not allow you to take the helm, Lieutenant. He chuckled quietly in response to her laugh and sat back, more relaxed in his chair. Can I get you something, Yvette? Coffee?

He stood up and walked to the small glass table to sat in front of the window, stooped a little to retrieve the silver jar, and poured out his own cup, before turning and waiting for her response.

"I would love some Raspberry leaf tea." She chose a herbal blend as she found that most of the main stream teas kept her awake all night.

Kerr nodded, and, after pouring his own, walked over to the replicator and materialised a cup. Placing it in front of her, he took his seat again and drank deeply.

“Our... old Chief Science officer, Mr Larkin, managed to create a hybrid beverage. A coffee based blend hinted with an after-taste of tea. Or was it tea hinted with coffee? he questioned himself. “I forget, but it was not unpleasant. Highly caffeinated so you may not enjoy it. I hope that when Kevin returns to us, the original Kevin, he’ll be able to experiment like that again. He let the silence befall the room as the Trill was clearly moved by the thought.

“Anyway, where would you like to visit first, Ms LaFaal? Any suggestions?

"As long as you can find my office for me then that would be great. Other than that, I'm free to do with as you see fit", again she found herself flirting with the Commanding Officer and her cheeks reddened slightly as she spotted her own lapse.

“Then, that’s where we shall begin, Lieutenant. Please, after you...
